Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

An opportunity is available for an Educational Interpreter (ASL) to support a Kindergarten student in a 1:1 setting at an elementary school located in University Park, PA. The student is fully deaf with cochlear implants and has some prior experience with sign language through preschool early intervention. This role is essential as the student transitions into elementary school, requiring consistent interpretation services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-on-one ASL interpretation for a Kindergarten student
  • Collaborating with another onsite interpreter who supports a 2nd grade student to ensure continuity and support
  • Facilitating effective munication between the student, teachers, and peers
  • Adapting interpretation techniques to meet the students individual needs and preferences

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language and experience interpreting in educational settings
  • Experience working with young children, particularly those who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educational teams and other interpreters
  • Flexibility to fully mit to onsite work throughout the school year

Location and Schedule:

  • Elementary school in University Park, PA, approximately 20 minutes from Penn State and about an hour from Harrisburg
  • Full-time onsite mitment for the duration of the school year
  • Contract position
