Departmental Objective 

To efficiently conduct research in compliance with the Quality Management System, the Animal Care and Use Program, project budgets, and timelines 

To expand and improve the site research activities through innovation, development, and customer focus 

 

Primary Job Purpose 

Performing study activities, technical procedures, and providing administrative as well as laboratory-based support to study management staff 

 

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist with study master file administration, including, but not limited to the preparation and close-out of files, raw data reviews, and data management tasks 
  • Maintaining assigned laboratory spaces and equipment in good working order and cleanliness 
  • Quality control of raw data as needed 
  • Preparation of the final study master files for shipment and archiving 
  • Participate in day-to-day research activities such as dose preparation, administration, observations, sample collection, and other related research tasks 
  • Assist in the preparation and management of biological sample collection 
  • Post-collection processing of biological samples 
  • Review of control documents as needed 
  • Identify and implement preventative measures in accordance with set instructions and procedures in cases where serious diseases are suspected 
  • Timely reporting of study adverse events to the Study Director/Investigator/Coordinator  

Qualification, Training and Experience Requirements  

  • Post-secondary degree in life sciences, or 
  • 5-7 years’ relevant experience

Physical Requirements 

  • While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to communicate effectively by talking, listening, reading, and writing in a professional manner as defined by our code of conduct 
  • At all times, be sober and clear of influence of any substances including alcohol and legal recreational drugs, which may affect the ability of user, safety of animals and other staff members, and work quality in any manner 
  • Ability to maneuver 50 pounds regularly, while maintaining balance on uneven terrain, confined spaces, or on wet and slippery surfaces 
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and step stools while carrying up to 40 pounds 
  • Ability to work the duration of an eight-hour shift, on your feet, in constant motion 
  • Comply with any pertinent local legislative requirements and any additional physical requirements as determined by the Occupational Risk Evaluation Profile for the position 

Work Environment 

  • The employee is required to:
  • work in an office / laboratory / outdoor environment
  • may interact with and handle animals
  • be available and work during normal work hours as well as after-hours according to pre-arranged departmental schedules that may require evening, weekend, and public holiday work 

  Compliance Requirements 

  • Perform duties according to quality guidelines (e.g., GCP/GLP as relevant), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and in line with the relevant study protocols or study plans 
  • Perform duties in compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements 
  • Observe occupational health and safety regulations and comply with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements as required for the position
  • Identify, record and report incidents, maintenance faults and issues impacting animal welfare, biosafety, and study conduct 
  • Work outcomes and behavior should be in accordance with company and departmental standards as well as values and ethics. Continuous evaluation and/or assessment may be used to determine compliance thereto 
  • Meet continuous professional development requirements, if relevant, inclusive of registration and points requirements with the relevant council, institutions, etcetera 
  • Continuous training, development and supervision are mandatory to comply with company policies, procedures, guidelines, and job role standards
