Who We Are:  CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. CAMBA’s comprehensive Workforce Development and Refugee Services Program s: Since our founding CAMBA has connected over 25,000 New Yorkers to full time jobs. Our workforce development initiatives grew out of our commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive New York City. Driven by racial and economic equality, we provide opportunities for the most economically and socially vulnerable to thrive. We work with a vast diversity of job seekers, and specialize in assisting those with special barriers to employment including refugees, political asylees, immigrant professionals, young adults, victims of human trafficking and others, from over fifty countries of origin, who are striving to connect to career paths. We take a strength based approach to career development, matching participants to specific bridge trainings which allow them to benefit from the job opportunities we develop with our employer partners. Among other areas of specialization, we have expertise in matching STEM skilled immigrant professionals to engineering sector and IT jobs locally. These award winning programs are performance-based, and success is measured by meeting engagement, employment placement, training, and retention goals. The Refugee Services Programs provide resettlement and cultural adjustment support, job training, placement and transitional support services to refugees and asylees during their 60 months of eligibility in the United States to help with any impediments to employment and self-sufficiency.

Position: Child Care Navigator

Reports To: Program Manager

Location: 2244 Church Avenue, 4th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11226

What The Child Care Navigator Does:

  • Research available subsidized childcare, early education, after-school, summer camp, and/or teen programs to create educational materials/presentations regarding available options and eligibility requirements.
  • Meet individually with clients to understand child-care needs, locate appropriate programs, and successfully complete applications.
  • Develop partnerships with local providers/programs/community organizations to promote parental support programming.
  • Assess client eligibility for financial support services related with accessing child care, early education, after-school, summer camp, and/or teen programs and make appropriate referrals.
  • Liaise and coordinate with Small Business Services to develop programming related to starting a private day care and make referrals as needed.
  • Review all documentation establishing clients' eligibility for program and make file copies.
  • Assist clients in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms.
  • Create and maintain client files with detailed records of services provided /financial records, as directed and required by CAMBA, the Department of State, and Funders
  • Conduct initial intake or assessment of clients and clients' families and/or periodic reassessments.
  • Follow-up with clients and with referral organizations regarding client contact and progress with referral organization.
  • Work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves and in moving toward self-sufficiency.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to persuade clients to participate more fully in this process.
  • Monitor clients' progress toward their goals (dates achieved) via regularly scheduled telephone contact and/or face-to-face home and office visits, and document via progress notes.
  • Act as client liaison/client advocate with outside organizations, immigration attorneys and other referral sources regarding such matters as education, healthcare, housing, legal issues, new enrollments and client assessments, etc.
  • Recommend closing of cases in which clients have: (a) achieved primary goals and have maintained stability for a period of months; or, (b) have not demonstrated a willingness to participate in the process (lost-to-service); or, (c) have become ineligible for services (e.g. moved out of area).
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • Evaluate actual living conditions of clients through home visits.
  • Input client data and client progress information into automated database.
  • May reach out and market the program to the community in order to recruit clients.
  • May prescreen clients over the telephone for eligibility and may schedule intake appointments.
  • May escort clients to appointments (educational, medical, social service, etc.)
  • May assist clients in completing applications for benefits and entitlements, and may process applications on clients' behalf.
  • May follow-up with clients for a period of time after successful completion of their primary goals to assure client stability.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (e. g., B.A., B.S.W.) and/or equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, refugee services and workforce development.
  • Knowledge of NYC educational resources for children and teens, subsidized programs, and public assistance systems, an ability to establish partnerships with community organizations, and work effectively with individuals to assess their needs and connect to programs.
  • Bilingual Ukrainian/Russian.

Compensation : $50,000-$55,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
