Get to Know This Role
The Brewing Manager is passionate about sustainably making great beer and delivering the highest quality Sierra Nevada Experience. Reporting to the Director of Plant Operations, the Brewing Manager leads the brewing teams focus to consistently make our products on time, within specification and in a safe and sustainable manner. The Brewing Manager is an active participant of the site leadership team and is a key contributor to the breweries long-term strategic planning process.

What You Will Do
- Leads a team of brewing employees to create and sustain a culture of continuous improvement focused on safety, people, quality, efficiency, cost reduction, and waste reduction.
- Supervises a staff which involves direct and indirect responsibilities for interviewing, selecting, training, motivating, evaluating employee performance, administrating wages, and salaries, developing routines and procedures to ensure achievement of goals.
- Oversees all brewing, cellar, and filtration operations within the Brewing Department. Supports and optimizes the maintenance and production plans for the department
- Maintain physical condition of brewing spaces and equipment by adhering Food Safety Programs including GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), housekeeping standards, traceability, pest control, etc.
- Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, applicable federal and state laws, and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations
- Reduces product variability by utilizing continuous improvement tools such as SPC (statistical process control), FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), DMAIC, etc.
- Actively collaborates with peers to meet KPI targets and to develop short- and long-term goals that are aligned with Sierra Nevada's business objectives; productively contributes to the growth and development of the company and the craft brewing community
- Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
- Partners with the Technical Brewing, Quality and Supply Chain teams for product trials, new product development and production scale up
- Collaborates with the Engineering teams to initiate capital projects for the Brewing Department by developing project scope and justification, providing design feedback, and supporting installation and commissioning
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
- This role is responsible for production and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Safe Quality Food (SQF) System as defined in the SQF Code. There will be Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety and Food Security Training as required by Local, State, Federal and SNBC policies.All duties will be completed in a manner that is consistent with all aspects of Company Safety Rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF). Employees shall report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

- Bachelor's Degree or greater degree in engineering, food/fermentation science, chemistry, microbiology or related field required or any combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved required and
- Diploma or certificate in Brewing from an accredited institution or any combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved required
- 5 years relevant experience in a production brewery environment required
- 10 years relevant experience in a production brewery environment preferred
- 3 years supervisory or management experience required
- Expert level understanding of brewing raw materials, brew house operations, HTST, centrifuges, fermenting of ales and lagers, yeast metabolism/performance, filtration/finishing, overall sterile practices, brewery wide sanitation, brewery layout and equipment design
- Proficient understanding of GMPs, CIP/sterilization operations, water chemistry and processing, brewery microbiology, Quality systems, sensory science, packaging operations, utilities, etc.
- Proven ability to be a highly energetic leader with track record of team motivation, leadership, training and development while maintaining positive morale
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage time effectively
- Facilitating problem solving activities
- Experience with brewery automation systems
- Understanding of statistical process control methods
