Job Description

Vivani Medical (NASDAQ: VANI) is a publicly traded biopharmaceutical and medical technology company developing a highly differentiated and innovative drug delivery platform. We are preparing to scale our financial infrastructure to support growth and to continue improving our controls and compliance.

To that end, we are seeking a transformational, build-stage Corporate Controller who will play a handson and highly visible role in building out Vivanis accounting foundation for our next stage of growth. This role combines traditional Controller responsibilities closing the books, ensuring SEC and SOX compliance, etc. with the opportunity to take ownership of the role and function by modernizing systems, automating manual processes, and designing and implementing a scalable control environment.

This position reports directly to the CFO and will manage internal and external accounting resources.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements
  • Prepare and file financial SEC reports (e.g. 10Ks, 10Qs, Section 16 filings) and ensure timely coordination with auditors and legal counsel
  • Maintain and improve internal controls to support SOX 404(a) compliance; coordinate documentation, testing, and remediation; prepare for transition to SOX 404(b) when appropriate
  • Own and continuously improve the companys accounting policies, procedures, and systems to increase automation and efficiency including new system implementations, as appropriate
  • Manage external audit and auditor review processes and relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and accounting consultants
  • Provide technical accounting guidance for complex or nonroutine transactions (equity awards, leases, collaborations, R&D accruals, etc.)
  • Prepare materials and financial analyses for Audit Committee and Board meetings
  • Support FP&A, budget and BvA activities
  • Build relationships across the company with peers and functional leaders
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in accounting, finance or business administration with an emphasis in accounting
  • CPA license (active or inactive)
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least:
    • 3+ years of public audit experience (Big 4 or large regional firm) serving biopharma or medtech clients
    • 3+ years of fulltime corporate accounting experience inhouse at a public biopharma or medtech company
  • Strong technical accounting capabilities with deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, SOX, and internal control frameworks (COSO, PCAOB)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an external audit process endtoend
  • Handson experience implementing or upgrading accounting systems (ERP, consolidation, close management tools, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to communicate with all levels of employees, external legal counsel, accounting consultants, and external auditors
  • Demonstrated technical accounting ability with the handson experience needed to operate and improve manual processes while building toward automation

  • FP&A and BvA
  • Demonstrated interest in AI applied to financial reporting and analysis
  • Management of external resources for accounting, compliance and controls (e.g. technical memos, payroll & equity, tax, XBRL, etc.)
  • Cost and revenue accounting

Travel Required

The position may require travel. Must be able to work onsite a minimum of 3 days a week.

Salary Range

Salary Range: $225,000 - $275,000
