Job Description

ProSidian Seeks a Court Reporter Stenographer in CONUS - Boston, MA to support an engagement for a division of a U.S. Government Entity responsible for unified combatant initiatives that oversee the various special component commands of four (04) Military Branches of the United States Armed Forces.

The ProSidian Engagement Team Members work to provide verbatim Court Reporter Stenographer transcription services to transform spoken dialog into written documents with specific services and materials necessary to provide a concept study in support of USSOCOM's Sovereign Challenge program 2020 annual conference for the period of 29 March 3 April OR 07 12 June 2020 in Boston, MA.

Court Reporter Stenographer Candidates shall work to support requirements for Program Support and provide verbatim transcription services to transform spoken dialog into written legal documents during a conference for a division of a U.S. Government Entity responsible for unified combatant initiatives that oversee the various special component commands of four (04) Military Branches of the United States Armed Forces. This a 1099 Contract Position in Boston, MA and the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 561492 - Stenography Service.

The Court Reporter Stenographer shall work in support of Conferences/Meetings established as strategic international engagement programs, focused on preserving the sovereignty of independent nations and examining how extremist threats can violate that sovereignty. Veterans of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force) ideal.

The Professional Court Reporter Stenographer's work shall be to transcribe word-for-word any discussion that happens during the conference presentations; for questions, comments, answers posed; and during group discussions. The transcript of meeting presentations; questions, comments, answers posed; and group discussions become the document of record so it must be recorded accurately and completely. Once a transcript is finished, it is given a responsible party and may become part of the public record and/or used for programming purposes.

Additional functions for the Court Reporter Stenographers may also be to support requirements for Section 508 Compliance and support for closed-caption services for hearing-impaired individuals or perform other administrative tasks.

DATES AND TIMES: The Court Reporter Stenographer shall also be eligible for other employment/contract opportunities including other freelance work on a case-by-case basis, working for various clients across the U.S. Federal Government.

The meetings are planned for the Sovereign Challenge Conference during 29 March 3 April OR 07 12 June 2020 each year and the transcription takes place in real-time, with the Court Reporter Stenographer or stenographer sitting in the room.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Court Reporter Stenographer shall provide specific services and materials necessary to provide a concept study in support of USSOCOM's Sovereign Challenge program 2020 annual conference for the period of 29 March 3 April OR 07 12 June 2020 in Boston, MA. The final dates are TBD but will be one of the above. The following services, labor, tools, equipment, and materials are required to support this event:

  • Stenographer To provide an onsite individual with a minimum of 10 years of reporting experience for transcription services for all speaking events in support of the Sovereign Challenge Conference.

  • Record oral communications for various conference proceedings primarily focused on topics related to preserving the sovereignty of independent nations and examining how extremist threats can violate that sovereignty.
  • Ensures Court Reporter Stenographer systems are available and in proper working order (with back-ups available) prior to starting and during conference engagements.
  • Transcribes, proofs, and prepares transcriptions for distribution.
  • Files transcripts with appropriate documentation correspond with conference organizers, clients, stakeholders, and the public (as applicable) regarding requests for the preparation of transcripts and exhibits.
  • Trains Court Reporter Stenographer interns and monitors their work as required.
  • Provide and maintain service ready Court Reporter Stenographer supplies.
  • Maintains exhibits during Conference Sessions and Break-Out Meetings/Sessions as required by standard guidance used in court rules and procedures.
  • Inventories, catalogs, files, boxes, records, and store exhibits presented and provided during the conference sessions. Logs, copies, binds and verifies Meeting Documentation.

Qualifications

The Court Reporter Stenographer shall have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years. must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Powerpoint) and related tools and technology required for the position. Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria. The candidate shall ensure that duties are performed in a competent and professional manner that meets milestones/delivery schedules as outlined.

  • Requires accurately reporting (taking down steno) conference engagements at speeds of 225 words per minute and translating takedown from steno to English with computer aided transcription software and digital peripheral/hardware for contemporaneous use by judge, counsel and/or hearing-impaired participants.
  • Working knowledge of legal and medical terminology, correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and theories and principles of basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge and compliance with laws, rules, and regulations governing Court Reporter Stenographer profession and transcription activities, court policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use Court Reporter Stenographer and transcription equipment.
  • Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology.
  • Compliance with professional standards of the National Court Reporter Stenographers Association (NCRA).

  • Communicating effectively with judges, coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required, and completion of required apprentice and/or internship training in Court Reporter Stenographer and sufficient course work to obtain certification as a professional Court Reporter Stenographer from a recognized licensing or accrediting agency; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional Certification as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) issued through the National Court Reporter Association (NCRA).
  • Professional license as a Certified Court Reporter (CCR) issued by the Board of Court Reporter Stenographer of the Judicial Council of Boston, MA.
  • As a condition of continued employment, certification must be maintained through the duration of employment. May require a valid Boston, MA driver's license.
