Performance Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Is responsible for establishing and maintaining general school regulations within the general policies established by the School Board and the Superintendent of Schools.
B. Is responsible to the Superintendent of schools for the organization, administration, and supervision of the secondary education program.
C. Is responsible for keeping the Superintendent continuously informed as to the condition of the school and its activities, either through written communication or conference.
D. Supervises the preparation of the State, NCA or BIE reports for the district office.
E. Is responsible for establishing and enforcing academic and graduation policies in line with state and BIE requirements for graduates.
F. Submits recommendations to the Board for equal opportunities in programs and activities based upon the provisions of Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972
G. Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the secondary instructional program.
H. Organizes and administers the public relations program for his / her jurisdiction and for the security and accountability for that property.
I. Maintains a positive and active relationship with students, staff and parents.
J. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as the Superintendent shall direct.
K. Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
L. Supervises the maintenance of all records and reports.
M. Supervises all activities and programs that are a part of school’s curriculum.
N. Responds to written and oral requests for information.
O. Assumes responsibility for his / her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, and enrollment in advanced college courses.
P. Maintains appropriate licensure and credentialing requirements under the state for Secondary Principals.
Q. Will adhere to all school personnel policies and codes of conduct.
R. Prepares and delivers a monthly report to the Board of Education, inclusive of staff reports from various departments.
S. Responsible for developing a comprehensive High School budget with the school Business Manager and appropriate oversight of this approved budget.
Personnel:
A. Assists the Superintendent in screening and recommending applicants to the Board Personnel Committee.
B. Assists in interviewing potential candidates for employment within the school district.
C. Organizes the staff to meet the academic and extra-curricular needs of all students.
D. Delegate’s responsibility of duties and authority to the staff.
E. Conducts bi-weekly staff meetings to keep staff informed.
F. Assists teachers to arrange for substitute teachers as needed.
G. Supervises all certified and non-certified personnel assigned to the school. H. Conducts yearly performance evaluations on all staff.
I. Recommends staff members for continued employment or non-renewal based on his/her performance appraisal.
J. Is responsible for ensuring appropriate licensure of all staff working in the building and in the classrooms.
K. Ensure that all staff is accountable for school personnel policies, building protocol, contracts or terms of employment and all duties as assigned by their supervisors.
L. Ensure that all personnel issues and grievances are handled in a confidential and professional manner, in accordance with school personnel policies.
Student Services:
A. Is responsible for the attendance, discipline, health, and safety needs of all enrolled students.
B. Is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students, free from alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
C. Develops with the staff a positive program of student conduct and maintains and enforces discipline standards in accordance with school handbook policies.
D. Is responsible for scheduling of all students in the building.
E. Is responsible for the supervision of the Athletic Director and the general accountability of all extra-curricular programs and activities within the High School.
F. Is responsible for making final decisions on retention and promotion of students after consultations with teachers, parents and in conjunction with school academic guidelines.
G. Is responsible for the implementation of Summer School and Alternative Education Programs.
H. Supervises the maintenance of accurate student records (report cards, transcripts, behavior records, attendance records and cumulative folders) as well as maintaining the confidentiality of such records.
I. Assists facilities with scheduling fire and tornado drills as required by law.
J. Informs the Superintendent of students who have not returned school property so a claim for payment can be made.
K. Is responsible for ensuring all FERPA, Special Education, Employment, Due Process, etc. laws and regulations are followed regarding students and staff.
Educational Program:
A. Develops and administers the educational program within the broad framework of policies established by the Board and Superintendent. The development of curriculum is considered to be a cooperative effort involving teachers and other staff members.
B. The Principal, through recommendations from the staff, shall provide for in-service workshops and conferences to promote professional growth.
C. Responsible for the oversight of the school improvement process, including the design of the plan, staff training and reporting requirements.
D. Maintains a current inventory of books and equipment and instructional aids and makes necessary requisitions thereof.
E. Supervises the guidance and counseling program and along with the guidance counselor coordinates activities which provide for the continual assessment and interpretation of pupil growth.
F. Is responsible for the implementation of Safe and Drug Free school programs and initiatives.
H. Is responsible for maintaining appropriate school data for the continual improvement monitoring process as well as the selection of school programs.
I. Ensure all supplemental education programs are implemented and staff is participating in those programs.
Extra Curricular Activities:
A. Is responsible for assisting the AD in ensuring all extra-curricular activities are scheduled, monitored and evaluated throughout the school year.
B. Assists the AD in the general supervision of all extra-curricular personnel and their programs.
C. Assists the AD in planning and preparing a yearly athletic and activities budget for the High School.
D. Assist the AD in maintaining a comprehensive inventory of all school equipment and uniforms.
E. Assists with the development of a staff rotation to work and supervise all extra-curricular events, including but not limited to concessions.
F. Supervises the student eligibility requirements as set by the NDHSAA and School Board Policy.
G. Works with class and student council advisors to coordinate yearly student functions and activities.
H. Maintains an updated weekly student eligibility list in accordance with school policy.
I. Is responsible for the overall supervision and security of extra-curricular functions.
Building and Grounds:
A. Assists the Superintendent, facilities manager and custodians in administering the maintenance of the school plant.
School and Community Relations:
A. The Principal with the staff shall develop a public relations program including telephone calls by teachers, progress reports, parent conferences, open house, etc.
B. Is responsible for maintaining good public relations with the community as well as the utilization of community resources for positive student development.
C. Responsible for the utilization of various media sources to positively promote school programs, student achievements and athletic/extra-curricular successes.
D. Works with parents and community members to positively resolve conflicts.
F. Coordinates monthly parent trainings and community events with the school.
Terms of Employment:
A. The length of contract will be determined by the School Board.
B. The salary and benefit package will be based on the Administrative Pay Scale.
C. All employees of the Standing Rock Community School must submit to and pass a comprehensive background check.
D. All employees of the Standing Rock Community School must submit to and pass pre-employment drug testing and comply with year-round random drug testing.
E. The Principal must adhere to all additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Performance Evaluation:
A. Evaluation of the Principal’s job performance will be conducted twice per contract period with the 1st evaluation to be completed before December 15th and the 2nd before March 15th of each school year. The provisions are in accordance with the North Dakota Century School Code and the Standing Rock Community School Board policies.
