Job Description and Responsibilities

You will operate and maintain heavy, motorized equipment for purposes of unloading/loading of ferrous materials in a safe and efficient manner. In conjunction with the scale operator and office staff you will also maintain a steady flow in and out of the yard by minimizing traffic congestion.

  • Mechanically inclined and must be capable of troubleshooting and performing light mechanical repairs, identifying any major repairs (Common knowledge of equipment)
  • Loading and unloading of various ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Observe and practice all company safety rules and policies
  • Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life
  • Assisting with general labourer duties as required
  • Reporting any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage
  • Excellent oral communication, good judgement and reliability are a must
  • Ability to operate equipment in tight spaces
  • Punctual and available to work overtime on Saturdays as needed

Requirements
  • High School or equivalent
  • Operating heavy equipment considered an asset
  • Ability to work in various temperatures
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, moderate to heavy lifting and pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day
  • Willing and able to work in variable weather conditions including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions
