Responsibilities The James B. Duke Memorial Library at Johnson C. Smith University seeks to hire an Evening Library Assistant to join a dedicated team. The Evening Library Assistant will work part time in the evenings for a maximum of 25 hours a week, and will be paid hourly. The Evening Library Assistant will perform a broad range of duties in the evening under the supervision of the Circulation Supervisor and librarians from 6 pm to 10 pm. The main requirements will be assisting students and patrons at the Center of Information desk in-person and online with research, IT assistance, and reference services, re-shelving books and materials, and closing the library. The Evening Library Assistant will also help coordinate evening work-study students and their duties and responsibilities. This person will also spend a percentage of their time assisting with Archives special projects, processing serials, and library promotions and social media. The Evening Library Assistant must be able to work 20 hours per week in the evening, and is required to work evenings and weekends as assigned while providing occasional online support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Assist librarians and Evening Library Supervisor to manage the Center of Information Desk during the evenings and weekends, including enforcing library policies and assigning tasks
•Assist librarians and Evening Library Supervisor in circulation system management (checking out materials, patron records, course reserves, searching for library materials, etc)
•Provide reference, research, and technical assistance to students, faculty, alumni, and community
•Assist library staff to manage evening work-study students and interns
•Help with shelving and inventory of books and library materials
•Help maintain the tracking and reporting of library statistics
•Assist with archives, promotion, marketing, and grant projects as needed
•Required to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
•Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications The candidate should possess a bachelor's degree with related experience in humanities, business, communications, or management. The ideal candidate should have some library experience and experience working with a diverse group of patrons. Good written and oral communication skills, social media skills, and advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite. Experience with digital management tools like Google Drive, Dropbox, and others preferred. Good customer service skills and knowledge of how to work independentlyand collaboratively is required. Experience supervising staff, students, or interns is highly preferred. Evenings and weekends are required.
