About the Organization:

This organization is a dedicated resource for disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping. The team gathers, analyzes, and disseminates conflict-related information, presenting both data and insights freely for public access. Their work plays a crucial role in supporting journalists, researchers, and the public by informing on topics surrounding political violence and protest worldwide. The organization's real-time data and analysis are valued as some of the most accurate and widely referenced resources in the field.

The Role:

We are hiring a Graphic Designer to bring visual expertise to our projects, encompassing graphic design, content generation, brand management, marketing, and the formatting of publications. We're looking for a creative professional with an eye for design and visual storytelling who is skilled in sourcing impactful visuals and translating complex data into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences across multiple platforms.

This entry-level role is fully remote and offers a flexible weekly schedule that will be determined in collaboration with your supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for:

Graphic Design: Collaborate with the Associate Multimedia Coordinator to develop custom designs for social media, infographics, newsletters, and other materials. Refresh infographics weekly, and contribute design ideas to enhance the organization's website, ensuring cohesive branding. Support the Research and Analysis teams by crafting visually compelling data visualizations, and creating templates for projects that require visual storytelling.

Publications: Design and layout publications, ensuring clarity and visual appeal for analysis reports, rapid response outputs, guides, and internal documentation. Assist with updating templates on a regular basis.

Brand Management and Marketing: Implement branding strategies by ensuring content across the organization follows established guidelines. Support the Corporate Licensing team by designing materials like brochures, welcome packets, and proposals for client and donor outreach.

Digital Asset Management: Organize and maintain the digital library of assets in Google Photos and Google Drive, providing team members with requested photos or resources as needed.

Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the communications team and assist other departments as needed.

Skills and Competencies:

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should bring:

Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in visual communications, graphic design, journalism, or related digital design field. Self-taught designers with relevant degrees in social sciences or humanities are also encouraged to apply.
Design and Research Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience with Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, Acrobat, Photoshop). Additional experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or QGIS, animation, and audiovisual production are advantageous.
Visual Storytelling: Proficiency in creating engaging digital assets for web and social media campaigns across platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram, along with experience sourcing digital assets such as photography, video, and icons.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French, Arabic, Portuguese, or Spanish, is a plus.
Brand Management and Multi-Tasking: Ability to maintain brand consistency, collaborate across departments, and take initiative in remote settings. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana is beneficial.
Attention to Detail and Adaptability: A talent for meeting deadlines, providing and receiving feedback constructively, and experimenting with new designs within brand guidelines.

How to Apply:

To apply, please submit your CV, a portfolio of digital works, and a cover letter outlining your relevant qualifications and experience. Portfolios may be included as a link within the cover letter or attached. Candidates selected for further consideration will be asked to complete a design exercise as part of the interview process.
