Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Landscape Lighting Designer with a minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in luxury residential projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of landscape design principles, electrical systems, and architectural aesthetics to create stunning outdoor lighting solutions which enhance the beauty and functionality of high-end residential properties.

Lighting Design is a strategic initiative within Visual Comfort & Co - Direct allowing us to engage our residential clients in a more meaningful way. As a Landscape Lighting Designer, this key role will assist clients, the Business Development team, and other sales team members in developing creative layouts and specifications for residential landscape lighting projects to drive sales of Visual Comfort & Co brand products.

Responsibilities:
  • Consultation & Client Collaboration
    • Meet with clients and internal teams to understand their requirements, preferences, and budget for landscape lighting
    • Provide expert guidance and recommendations on lighting design concepts, fixtures, and technologies that align with the luxury residential aesthetic
    • Ability to hold and direct client meetings with poise and confidence
  • Site Analysis
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the property, considering existing landscape features, architectural elements, and natural surroundings
  • Evaluate the quality of ambient light and its impact on the landscape
  • Lighting Design
    • Develop innovative and customized lighting plans which accentuate key architectural and landscaping features while ensuring a harmonious balance
    • Incorporate various lighting techniques to create the desired ambiance and visual texture
  • Fixture Selection
    • Specify appropriate Visual Comfort & Co brand fixtures that meet lighting requirements, budget, and overall project aesthetic
  • Technical Expertise
    • Stay current with the latest advancements in lighting technology, energy-efficient solutions, and control systems to provide cutting-edge options for clients
  • Project Management
    • Work closely with installation team to ensure design integrity and quality are maintained
    • Maintain project timelines and schedules to meet client expectations
  • Documentation
    • Prepare comprehensive project documents, including lighting plans, fixture schedules, and specification packages
    • Execute deliverables within Visual Comfort & Co - Direct standards, ensuring consistency and quality of work both in design and deliverables
  • Collaboration
    • Be an available resource to Visual Comfort & Co - Direct seeking product knowledge and technical expertise
  • Communication
    • Clearly communicate with all parties, intent, direction and expectations
  • Meet/exceed architectural lighting sales goals through lighting design efforts
  • Travel for project design meetings and site visits in the showroom trade area markets
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in landscape design, lighting design, architecture, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in landscape lighting design, specifically in luxury residential projects
  • Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Acrobat and Excel. Experience with Dialux or AGI32 not required, but helpful)
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, lighting technologies, and control systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with clients, architects, contractors, and colleagues
  • Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics
  • Strong grasp of residential lighting trends
  • Knowledge of residential construction processes and a deft understanding of construction documents
  • Critical thinking, superior organization, planning skills, time management and prioritization with the ability to multi-task and thrive under pressure in a dynamic, multi-location team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, possess the ability to clearly articulate design and technical information to clients and internal teams
  • Experience professionally presenting solutions to customers
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times and possess the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations related to landscape lighting
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sales experience not required, but an advantage
  • A portfolio showcasing past luxury residential lighting design projects is highly desirable
