MAJOR FUNCTIONS

Under the leadership and guidance of the Public Works Director, the Lift Station Technician, I perform entry level mechanical work for the Lift Station department. Perform duties involving installation, maintenance and repair of the mechanical equipment, piping and property of the lift stations.

This position is designated as emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and actions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, winter storm, severe thunderstorm, flash flooding, etc.) or other conditions (natural or manmade).

  • Performs daily inspections, maintains, cleans, and repairs lift stations, including pulling and replacing pumps, repairing, and replacing pipe, valves and fittings
  • Troubleshoots and correct problems with lift station pumps.
  • Maintains accurate records for all work performed.
  • Cleans sewage spills and applies chemicals as required per federal, state, and local laws.
  • Responds to emergency and trouble calls, locates and identifies the cause and performs corrective actions as required.
  • Completes work in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Operates light and heavy-duty trucks, boom trucks, heavy lifting equipment, portable pumping equipment, power generation equipment, lawn maintenance equipment and various tools as required.
  • Independently performs maintenance and repair work of a routine nature.
  • Maintains frequently used parts and supplies on the assigned truck to ensure all parts needed for any given assignment are available and restocked as used.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used in the work assigned.
  • Knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in the work assigned.
  • Must be willing and able to work at heights well above ground level from various types of equipment and in moderately confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the work assigned.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read and understand manuals, specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to read and understand gauges and meters.
  • Ability to participate in the after-hours, emergency on-call schedule.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional, cooperative and team focused manner both orally and in writing with team members, supervisors, leadership and the public.
  • Skilled in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools, portable pumps, portable generators, various power and hand tools, hydraulic boom truck, light and heavy trucks, other motorized equipment, lawn equipment, sewage processing and lift station equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.
  • Mechanical background desired.
  • Valid Driver's License.
