TRC is looking for a Packaging Engineer for a client located in Graham, NC!

What you will be doing:

• Design, develop, and optimize innovative and cost-effective packaging solutions for food and beverage products. 
• Work cross-functionally with R&D, Operations, Quality, and Marketing to develop packaging that meets functional, aesthetic, and regulatory requirements. 
• Evaluate and test packaging materials to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, quality standards, and sustainability goals. 
• Collaborate with suppliers to assess material specifications, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. 
• Lead packaging trials, assess performance metrics, and document results to support commercialization efforts. 
• Identify and implement automation and efficiency improvements in packaging processes to enhance production efficiency and reduce waste. 
• Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes to recommend innovations and cost-saving opportunities. 
• Support sustainability initiatives by identifying eco-friendly packaging alternatives and improving recyclability of current packaging materials. 
• Develop packaging specifications, technical drawings, and testing protocols to ensure consistency and quality in production. 
• Troubleshoot packaging-related production issues and provide solutions to maintain operational efficiency. 

What we need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in packaging engineering within a manufacturing or CPG environment. 
• Strong understanding of packaging materials, design principles, and testing methods. 
• Experience with food-grade packaging and knowledge of FDA, USDA, and other regulatory requirements is a plus. 
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for designing packaging components. 
• Knowledge of packaging automation, machinery, and manufacturing processes. 
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills. 
• Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment. 
• Excellent communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
