LOCATION : Lancaster, PA

POSITION SUMMARY: The part-time library circulation assistant provides support and assistance to library patrons at the circulation desk and assists with various library tasks. This individual also serves in a reception capacity for the campus, welcoming visitors and providing information and assistance as needed. The position is part-time up to 15 hours per week and includes some evening and Saturday hours when classes are in session.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide assistance at the Circulation Desk
  • Check out, check in, and renew library materials
  • Assist library patrons with basic reference questions and use of computers, photocopier, and other equipment
  • Receive payments of fines and fees
  • Update patron information and create accounts for new patrons
  • Offer directions and referrals when appropriate
Welcome campus visitors
  • Provide information and directions for campus visitors
  • Issue visitor parking permits
  • Answer the telephone and direct callers
  • Refer questions or concerns to the appropriate campus department
Attend to library upkeep and security
  • Tidy resource areas
  • Implement opening and closing procedures as needed
  • Monitor activity in the building and respond as necessary to any concerns
Participate in collection maintenance
  • Shelve materials
  • Process holds
  • Regularly monitor circulating collections for items that require repair
Additional special projects and tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree or work experience in an administrative or customer-service position; computer competency; demonstrated customer service ability; careful attention to detail; adept at working flexibly in a team environment; ability to work in a multicultural and diverse environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS : Library work or volunteer experience; proficiency with computers and technology; strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; excellent problem-solving skills; keen attention to detail.
