Job Description

POSITION: NDSCS Police Officer

LOCATION:  NDSCS – Wahpeton, North Dakota  

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT:  Full-time, 12-month, benefited position  

WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED:  Anyone eligible to work in the United States 

JOB SUMMARY:  The Police Officer at NDSCS will perform licensed law enforcement duties as an armed police officer enforcing the constitution of the United States, the laws of North Dakota, the municipal ordinances of the City of Wahpeton, and the rules and regulations of NDSCS.

Post Offer/Pre-Hire:   The selected candidate must pass a physical exam including vision and hearing screenings, satisfactorily complete a psychological assessment, and must be able to satisfactorily demonstrate their abilities to meet minimum qualifications.  

Post Hire:   The selected individual must pass a qualifying shooting course per department standards as a condition of continued employment.

SALARY:  Starting at $49,972, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements



  • Must support the mission, vision, and values of NDSCS

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • North Dakota Peace Officers License or eligibility to be licensed within North Dakota upon employment

  • Valid Driver’s License with no more than three moving violations in the past two years

  • Knowledge of the general nature and existence of rules, procedures, and methods related to duties that comprise the work associated with law enforcement

  • Proficient in the use of computers and software applications

  • Strong interpersonal/oral/written communication skills

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which will include rotating shifts

  • Must have left previous law enforcement employment in good standing

Preferred Qualifications



  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice or equivalency in a related field or law enforcement experience

  • Two or more years of law enforcement experience

  • Successful law enforcement experience in a higher education environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and the Violation Against Women’s Act (VAWA)
