OUR STORY
THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE The Chicago Cubs franchise, a charter member of Major League Baseball's National League since 1876, has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916 and is the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. In 2009, the Ricketts family assumed ownership of the Chicago Cubs and established three main goals for the organization: Win the World Series, Preserve and Improve Wrigley Field, and Be a Good Neighbor.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE:
The Chicago Cubs are seeking a Sports Science Coordinator within the Baseball Sciences Department. This role will help guide the development of organizational protocols to monitor and improve athlete performance at all levels, including the MLB team. The ideal candidate will possess strong quantitative skills, the ability to think critically and creativity, and the ability to communicate effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:
  • Work with MLB performance staff to design our testing and tracking protocols to monitor athlete performance, workload, and recovery
  • Educate staff on relevant concepts, technologies, and best practices for information collection
  • Ensure that the data we collect is reliable, valid and accurate
  • Develop - from scratch - detailed, actionable, and scale-able reports for coaches, players, and performance staff
  • Construct processes to ensure decision-making is guided by objective data and first principles reasoning
  • Integrate new research findings into practice and communicate any hypotheses and research questions to R&D
  • Identify, validate, and implement new technologies and methodologies as relevant
  • Conduct or support research initiatives to further the organization's understanding of health and performance

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Understanding of foundational statistical and scientific principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of sports performance technologies (GPS, force plates, etc.) and relevant domains (physiology, biomechanics, etc.)
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization (e.g. R, Python)
  • Relevant experience working in high-performance athletic environments
