About this Job Mission Statement of the Office of State Fire Marshal: To uphold the law and provide for the protection of life and property from the hazards of fire or explosion, to ensure the safety of our citizens in the constructed environment, to provide equal access to disabled individuals and to promote the efficient use of energy in commercial buildings. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR twelve semester hours of college training in a criminal justice field; OR an associate’s degree in a criminal justice field. Special Requirements Must be eighteen years old at time of application. Applicants with a felony conviction, pending indictments or charges, or a conviction for hit and run or driving while intoxicated within the past three years are disqualified. May be required to possess a current Louisiana driver’s license at the time of appointment. Job Specification Job Duties Respond to and conduct criminal investigations into suspicious fire losses. Determine the origin and cause of fires and secure evidence of arson or related crimes. Conduct and coordinate the response of accelerant detection K9 teams to fires suspected of involving flammable liquid accelerants, statewide. Properly document the scene and any evidence located or collected by photographs, sketches, or diagrams. Locate and interview witnesses; develop and question suspects; collect and secure written, audio, and video statements as evidence. Prepare written reports to document the case and all facts discovered. Collect various financial, insurance, civil, and/or criminal records; file supplemental reports. Execute arrest and search warrants; file necessary returns and reports. Carry and use a firearm as necessary in the performance of duties. Incumbent must be P.O.S.T. (Police Officer Standard Training) certified. Conduct surveillance and collect intelligence information. Develop and meet with confidential informants and sources, as needed. Utilize technology, databases, and analytical tools in fire investigations. Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group (State Fire Marshal Arson Investigator 1/2/3). Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday. Location: TBD. Compensation: The bi‑weekly rate is as follows: State Fire Marshal Arson Investigator 1 (PS112) – $1,764.80 State Fire Marshal Arson Investigator 2 (PS113) – $1,888.00 State Fire Marshal Arson Investigator 3 (PS114) – $2,020.00 How To Apply No Civil Service test score is required to be considered for this vacancy.
