Experience: Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an emergency department environment
License: Current RN Licensure
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI)
Must-Have:
- Two years of acute hospital experience as an RN
- One year of emergency department hospital experience as an RN
Description:
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication to deliver high-quality compassionate care to patients and families.
The ED RN assesses patient needs and identifies urgent or emergent care priorities while collaboratively providing direct care.
The ED RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress.
The ED RN demonstrates skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain/discomfort and safety.
He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families.
The ED RN connects with patients and families during triage to identify initial management and assign priority of care according to established triage standards.
The ED RN establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, and assesses nonverbal communication while providing frequent updates.
The ED RN conducts primary assessments for critical needs and documents deviations from norms within acceptable time frames.
The ED RN uses various methods, including direct observation and patient/family interviews, to conduct secondary assessments.
The ED RN identifies contributing factors and assesses psychosocial needs, documenting any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse.
The ED RN reassesses patients to identify response to treatment and changes in condition, responding appropriately.
The ED RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
The ED RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individuals' education, training, and scope of practice.
The ED RN understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
The ED RN prepares patients, parents, or families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, making appropriate referrals for post-emergency care.
The ED RN teaches patients what is needed for continued care and healing at home, evaluating their understanding of key points in education and discharge instructions.
