Purpose Statement

The job of Instructional Technician - Skill Building is done for the purposes of: improving students success in the basic social, behavioral and academic skills (e.g. reading, language, and/or math, and behavior skill building); assisting students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments.

This job reports to the Building Principal


Instructional Technician – Skill Building. Lane 2, $15.00 per hour, 3.25 hours per day, 5 days per week, hours are 12:30-3:45 Monday-Friday, 177 days per year. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply. There are no benefits with this position.


Experience Job related experience is desired.

Education High school diploma or equivalent.

Placement on the salary schedule will be reviewed by supervisor and finalized through the Human Resource and Payroll Departments. Candidates already employed with Nebo School District, applying for a new position with a lane increase, may decrease in overall steps in the new position if offered, accepted, and not in the same job category.


Essential Functions

  • Adapts classroom materials under the direction of the teacher (e.g. reading, math, and language, early childhood learning aides, etc.) for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives.
  • Administers tests (e.g. monitoring, correcting, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teacher in evaluating students' progress.
  • Confers with teachers, parents and/or other school personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives.
  • Evaluates students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment and individualized instruction.
  • Implements instructional programs and lesson plans (e.g. reading, math, language, comprehension, writing, computer, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, work area, students' files/records (e.g. clean up after various class projects, instructional materials, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various situations for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in in-service workshops and training for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information related to job functions.
  • Prepares subject specific lessons appropriate for individuals or small groups for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of reading, math, and early childhood instruction.
  • Provides direct instructional services to individuals, small groups or entire classes of students under the supervision of the assigned classroom teacher (e.g. reading, math, self esteem, behavioral skills, early childhood activities, etc.) for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of math, language, and reading deficits and ensuring student's success.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Responds to inquiries for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or referral.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.


Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practiced; operating standard office equipment including computers and pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; age appropriate activities; health and safety standards and strategies dealing with student social behavior.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; adapting to changing work priorities; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; and working positively with students who have behavioral challenge Have the Ability for regular and reliable attendance.


Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.


Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
