PURPOSE

To supervise the production personnel responsible for the manufacturing, assembling, quality, packaging and distribution of raw materials and finished goods.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Supervisory Responsibilities (70%)

  • Direct, coach, assign, and monitor production employees engaged in the manufacture, assembly, quality and distribution of finished goods.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for employee safety in assigned area(s).
  • Prioritize and re-prioritize the activities of assigned production employees.
  • Follow up assigned tasks to ensure completion and accuracy.
  • Ensure that proper quality, production, and safety policies and procedure are followed and enforced.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with all production personnel.

2. Data Requirements (15%)

  • Collect, analyze, recommend and distribute production, quality and/or scrap data.
  • Ensure that all production information is accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Initiate all safety and/or disciplinary investigations/reports.
  • Validate time cards and process payroll changes.
  • Complete audit sheets when required.

3. Process Support (15%)

  • Provide troubleshooting for daily and long term production issues.
  • Continuously drive scrap reduction on production floor.
  • Insure production quality specifications are satisfied.
  • Audit procedures & perimeters in order to ensure that they are correct and in practice.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Participate in first-piece validations of manufactured parts.

3. Initiate and administer required discipline.

4. Schedule employee vacations, personal leaves, etc. as requested.

5. Complete and process departmental time sheets.

6. Post and monitor overtime schedules.

7. Approve vacation schedules and man accordingly.

8. Ensure ISO compliance and maintenance through waste minimization, improved recycling techniques and improved energy conservation methods.

9. Other duties as required by supervisor.

SUPERVISOR GRADE LEVEL

  • Level A - Entry Level:
  • Specifics of the job - First and last piece inspection, hourly checks,
  • Document production activities properly in OEE and other production forms.
  • Leadership is recognizable
  • Proper implementation of 5S
  • Able to contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
  • Able to implement and reinforce the follow up of work instructions.
  • Able to collect information to identify root cause.
  • Understand Quality expectations
  • Able to reinforce job safety
  • Machine operation and troubleshooting 10-30%
  • Level B – Intermediate:
  • Able to perform a - j on level A as an expert
  • Able to review and revise production standard work
  • Able to propose and implement ideas to stabilize the system
  • Able to analyze production data and contribute to the continuous improvement of the processes and procedures.
  • Process focus includes non-cyclical areas.
  • Able to begin to use a structured form of problem solving like 5 whys
  • Able to experiment with employees suggestions for process improvement
  • Able to identify safety hazards and suggest ways to prevent incidents
  • Machine operation knowledge and troubleshooting 40-70%
  • Level C – Expert:
  • Is expert on requirements of level A and B
  • Contribute to the visual controls of production
  • Track data regularly to analyze trends to spot problems
  • Identify problems followed up for root cause solutions
  • Use basis project management skills.
  • Documented processes and procedures match actual process
  • Frequent reviews of a production and related processes
  • Routine and systematic use of problem solving tools to seek root cause solutions and prevent future occurrences.
  • Able to design, implement, evaluate and sustain process improvement projects.
  • Fully understand customer expectations
  • Aligns with Quality systems.
  • Able to identify hazards, prevent incidents and accidents and implement suggestion related to safety.
  • Machine operation knowledge and troubleshooting 75-100%. Supervisor can operate line if needed without help and can train new Operators also.

RELATIONSHIPS

Communicate and work cooperatively with material handlers, warehouse auditors, shipping/receiving clerks, production personnel and supervisors, production team leaders, and customers.

SUPERVISION

Works under the general supervision of the Operations Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Reading, writing, arithmetic skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally.
  • Drive a forklift when require.
  • Knowledge of basic production and assembly.
  • Basic personal computer skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 requirements and standards.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION/LICENSE REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or G.E.
  • A.A. or A.S. in business (Management preferred).
  • Two plus (2+) years related experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Degree of Physical Demands (Strength) usually associated with this classification:

  • Medium: Exerting ten (10) to seventy five (75) pounds of force infrequently.
  • Involves transporting (usually walking) and positioning (usually standing) on a frequent basis.
  • Job also requires infrequent bending and stooping.

Environmental Conditions (Physical Surroundings) usually associated with this classification:

  • Incumbent is subject to internal plant conditions such as frequent exposure to loud noise(s), dust and miscellaneous particles, low and high temperatures.
