Full Job Description:

CalComm Regional 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, located in Calumet Park, IL, is looking for dispatchers with 9-1-1 experience with Police, Fire, and EMS.

We are looking for experienced individuals with the passion to help others and to make first responder safety their first priority.

CalComm is currently serves six (6) police departments, and six (6) fire departments, and MABAS 22 Division.

Essential job functions within a 911 dispatcher's job description will likely detail the daily duties associated with the position, which may include the following:

  • Operate a multi-line telephone console system, and TDD system for the deaf and hearing-impaired
  • Translate information to the appropriate responders
  • Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter the data into a computer-aided dispatch system for radio dispatch purposes
  • Perform emergency medical dispatch and crisis intervention services
  • Ask vital questions and provide pre-arrival instructions for emergency medical calls
  • Monitor and operate a radio console and computer equipment
  • Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints
  • Ask questions to interpret, analyze and anticipate the caller's situation as to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch emergency services, or refer callers to other agencies
  • Dispatch and coordinate the response of public safety agencies
  • Identify appropriate number and toe of equipment or apparatus to dispatch
  • Enters and modifies information into local, state and national computer databases
  • Monitor and respond to a variety of technical systems and alarms

Required Knowledge:

911 dispatchers must generally have knowledge in:

  • Knowledge of CAD, Spilman, and Motorola Radio Systems (preferred but not required) knowledge of rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Safety procedures, such as CPR and first aid
  • Excellent customer service
  • Transmitting, broadcasting, and switching systems, and computerized databases, as well as the operations and procedures for such databases
  • Basic dispatch codes
  • Standard abbreviations and industry terminology commonly used by emergency medical services and law enforcement agencies
  • Jurisdictional boundaries, as well as thoroughfares, landmarks, public buildings and waterways within the jurisdiction

The Required Skills for 911 dispatchers is the ability to:

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • At least 2+ years of 9-1-1 dispatching
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Citizen of United States
  • Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have LEADS certification
  • 90-days probationary period required

Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift
  • On call Weekend availability
