Summary

Spire is seeking an Accountant to work in the 700 Market Street, St. Louis, Missouri office. This position will be responsible for the preparation and completion of monthly journal entries, financial statements, quarterly reports, yearly reports, and other special reports required by the Company and outside governmental and regulatory agencies. This position is also responsible for maintaining accurate financial records.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, project adjustments, reconciliations, financial statements, reports, etc.
  • Analyze and explain general ledger account balances
  • Create capital projects and review those created by other departments
  • Prepare various schedules and reports maintained in Microsoft Excel
  • Keep abreast of changes in accounting rules
  • Collaborate with other members of the operational accounting team and other departments to maintain the quality of deliverables and meet deadlines
  • Work on special projects, including preparing rate casework papers, annual budgets, ad hoc requests, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar degree

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience working in large scale ERP systems such as Oracle & SAP

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a shared office environment
  • Working Hours: Typically, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required to meet strict deadlines
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required
