What is an Accountant - Plant Accounting?
An Accountant - Plant Accounting is responsible for processing and maintaining Central Hudson’s fixed asset records, coordinating the month-end close and reporting processes for Power Plant, and developing depreciation and AFUDC budgets based on the Capital Construction Budget, along with performing monthly budget variance reporting. Plant Accounting also provides rate case support and submits various regulatory and legal reporting requirements for the Public Service Commission (“PSC”), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) and NY State Office of Real Property. Title/level commensurate with experience.
What does an Accountant – Plant Accounting do?

Completes complex accounting transactions

Prepares internal and external financial reports including GAAP financial statements and Notes, Board of Director reports, and required regulatory filings

Researches, interprets, and implements new accounting and reporting standards in accordance with FASB requirements

Performs variation analyses versus budget and prior periods
-
Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be an Accountant – Plant Accounting?
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field of study; with at least two years of Accounting experience
-
Working knowledge of current FASB pronouncements and ability to research and implement new pronouncements as necessary

Strong Computer skills including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
-
Strong documentation skills
-
Well-developed written/verbal communication skills with the ability to multi-task

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with internal customers, as well as an interactive team environment

Possess the ability to work in a deadline-oriented, fast paced environment

Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
-
CPA
-
Public Accounting experience includes employment with a Big Four Accounting Firm

Working knowledge of mainframes including SAP, Oracle or other similar software
-
Working knowledge of SEC reporting requirements, including PCAOB standards relating to Sarbanes Oxley
-
Working experience with Lean Six Sigma managerial concepts
