We are looking for an Accounting Manager to join the team in the Richmond VA office. The Accounting Manager is responsible for planning and directing the accounting activities of the company including; maintaining the general ledger, preparing monthly & annual financial statements, identifying & analyzing budget variances, assisting with regulatory reporting, preparing and/or reviewing ledger entries and reconciliations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a team that owns FP&A, GAAP & Tax reporting, Billing & Collections, AP & Payroll.
  • Adherence to closing calendar to ensure timely and accurate reporting of business operations.
  • Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
  • Reports to the Corporate Controller

Financial & Management Reporting & Analysis

  • Manage production of periodic financial reports & management reporting package; ensuring that the reported results comply with GAAP &/or financial reporting standards.
  • Review & understands budget vs. actuals, reports & discusses with management as appropriate
  • Prepare required accruals for financial close and year end reporting, including reviewing and posting accounting transactions to the General Ledger.
  • Presents recommendations to management on short & long-term financial objectives & policies.

Operations & Client Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepares required client financial reports and analysis with appropriate frequency
  • Researches and prepares responses to customer solicitations & contract renewals, with emphasis on pricing, margin and contract terms & adherence.

Department Operations & Control Environment

  • Enhance internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Ensure close deadlines are met and results in timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain a reconciled Balance Sheet; coordinate with auditors & provide needed information for the annual audit & tax return.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state & federal government requirements including overseeing annual business tax/license requirements.
  • Monitors outstanding AR/AP in context of working capital metrics; oversees monthly invoicing to clients, including contractual credits.
  • Recruits and hires accounting and financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.

Shared Service

  • Oversee bi-weekly payroll process to ensure accuracy and policy compliance
  • Oversee expense reimbursements and related corporate card reconciliations
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Position qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Eight years (8+) or more of related experience required.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • Experienced manager focused on staff development and growth.
  • Ability to foster & maintain a department that delivers timely with quality.
  • Cross functional team player with clarity and consistency on messaging.
  • Proficient in accounting software (currently using QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop).
  • Well versed in MS Office Suite, with advanced level of Microsoft Excel (functions, formulas and pivots are key tools of yours)
