This position is located at Pamlico Correctional Institution, in Bayboro, NC. The Accounting Technician position provides dedicated Accounts Payable support for the facility. This position is supervised and supported by the Administrative Officer and serves as the backup to the Trust Fund Clerk, utilizing the Inmate Banking System. The Accounting Technician is responsible for providing accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, and performs a variety of accounts payable functions in E-Procurement and the North Carolina Accounting System. This position uses Microsoft Excel to track purchases and payments and will be responsible for monthly budget reports and maintaining a general ledger.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring cost centers and budgets
  • Processing invoices which have been approved for payment
  • Verifying payments and maintaining financial records
  • Consulting with vendors and staff regarding accounts
  • Reconciling payment data
  • Troubleshooting problems with payments and accounts

Working knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices.

  • Knowledge of accounting and other software (e.g.: ERP, Excel, Word, Access).
  • Knowledge of basis mathematical computations.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply the laws and regulations pertaining to financial records.
  • Ability to use posting, calculating, or adding machine in recording financial data or making computations.
  • Ability to prepare standard financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to identify and correct routine and recurring financial problems, referring more complex problems to a higher level.
  • Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
  • Ability to verify accounting documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associate s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of accounting experience; or High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32,460.00 - $56,806.00 per year
