Position Overview:
This position is responsible for reviewing, coding, and completing entries for accounts payable and expense report requests, completing general ledger journal entries, preparing various general ledger reconciliations, processing fixed asset purchases, compiling and processing entries for the lease/fleet car program.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes, reviews and processes accounts payable invoices and expense reports and assigns the appropriate coding.
  • Works with vendors to consolidate invoices, receives invoices electronically, changes payment dates, or resolves payment questions.
  • Analyzes and creates accounting system entries using the appropriate general ledger accounts, procedures and accounting principles, for routine and moderately complex transactions.
  • Reviews and reconciles general ledger accounts to ensure monthly balances.
  • Prepares various excel spreadsheets, reconciliations and general ledger journal entries.
  • Provides technical support to team members and/or vendors regarding issues with assigned accounting functions (accounts payable/general accounting transactions), in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties such as daily deposits, mail rotation, post/check/transmit process, 1099’s, special check handling, EFT’s, and sales tax issues.
  • Monitors team inbox and answers questions via email or phone.
  • Performs maintenance (ordering, limit changes, etc.) on company credit cards.
  • Sets up fixed asset data, reviews fixed asset reports, performs fixed asset inventories and the subsequent reconciliations, and runs depreciation reports.
  • Uses available information on accounting systems and may create processes and/or distribute various department and management reports used in ongoing decision making.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience, preferably in the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of federal and state (Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) laws, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
  • Solid knowledge of basic accounting and/or finance principles.
  • Knowledge of IRS rules and guidelines.
  • Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications and other related accounting and/or report writing software applications.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Ability to remain objective in balancing business needs and risk.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals and represent the business.
  • Valid driver’s license.
