SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Activity Specialist is to assist in design and implementation of assigned programs in arts and crafts, nature, outdoor skills and/or sports and games, and assists with unit operations and supervision of campers assigned to the unit; to provide a safe, fun, high quality Girl Scout camp experience for campers. Resident Camp employment is seasonal, with dates of employment approximately June-August. Employment will be at Camp Tuckaho, located in Troy, Missouri.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Assist in design and implementation of assigned programs in arts and crafts, nature, outdoor skills and/or sports and games.
• Leads and teaches activities that are varied and age appropriate to foster skills, teamwork creativity, physical activity and pride in accomplishment. Adapts programs as needed to accommodate campers skills and abilities.
• Assists Site Manager in implementing all-camp programs, evening programs, ceremonies and special unit and camp events.
• Inventories and prepares program areas to ensure that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained and kept in order throughout the camp season.
• Implements and monitors activities to ensure that all established health and safety standards are followed by campers and staff. Maintains compliance with Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), American Camp Association (ACA) and council health and safety standards and procedures. Supports and positively interprets camp rules to campers.
• Sustains an environment which supports physical and emotional safety for campers and staff. Establishes and maintains good relationships with campers.
• Assists with camper supervision and unit activities. Actively assists campers in getting acquainted, making friends, understanding one another,` and problem solving.
• Assists in implementing closing camp operations. Assumes responsibility for cleaning, inventory, and storage of supplies, equipment and facilities.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

If your position requires that you drive an average of one (1) day per week or more, you must possess a valid state drivers license and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

• Is required to talk and hear, stand and walk, and is frequently very active which often requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching.
• Is required to reach with hands and arms
• Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

EXPOSURES

Work is performed in a normal indoor environment with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dirt and/or dust AND work is performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dirt and/or dust.
