Requirements ( MUST meet the following):
(A) Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or (B) Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; or (C) Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or (D) Has completed a training course approved by the State.

Job Summary:
Perform and oversee a variety of activities to promote socialization and increased quality of life
among the residents. Exhibit an energetic, positive and compassionate attitude with the ability
to remain calm with interruptions and behaviors that may be exhibited by the elderly
population. Supervise activities assistants and operations of the activities department as well
as perform regular activities duties and maintain an attitude that provides excellent customer
service to all residents, families and staff while promoting the company’s pillars of strength.

Responsibilities:
General Requirements
1) Supervise activities assistant(s) in daily procedures and activities
2) Complete MDS assessments timely and accurately
3) Maintain department work areas, equipment and supplies
4) Execute in-services and implement activity procedures within the department
5) Participate in resident/facility rounds
6) Adhere to and enforce safety procedures
7) Report medical concerns or observations
8) Assist in planning and facilitating activities for residents daily, weekly and monthly
9) Follow the care plan in providing daily activities for the resident
10) Encourage residents to participate in activities to promote socialization and improving
quality of life
11) Oversee activities to encourage engagement and promote physical, social, and mental
well-being of residents
12) Develop working rapport with other departments to assist in transportation and
participation of residents in the activity program
13) Be comfortable with one on one conversation, routine visits with residents, in-room
activities
14) Be able to perform a variety of activities including but not limited to: visits, writing
letters, running errands, craft projects, BINGO, organizing games, parties, religious
services, sensory groups, etc.
15) Execute resident council and maintain appropriate records for each meeting

1) Education: High school diploma/GED, ability to read and write in English
2) Experience: 5 years of experience in health care setting preferred
3) Physical Demands: Lifting up to 50 pounds max.
4) Travel: Not applicable
5) Working Conditions: Be able to visit rooms and participate in big group activities with
varying levels of light, smells and temperatures
6) Principal Contacts: Residents, families and facility staff
7) General Requirements: Must be able to execute the terms and conditions set forth in
the employee handbook, including, but not limited to:
a) Works in a safety-conscious manner, which ensures that safe work practices are
used in order to not pose a risk to self or others in the workplace. Reports any safety
violations or hazards to supervisor

d) Interacts in a tactful, diplomatic, and humanistic manner with patients, families,
visitors, and co-workers to provide a safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective
caring environment which ensures the self-respect, personal dignity, rights, and
physical safety of each patient and facility guest
e) Maintains a dependable attendance record and adheres to standards of cleanliness,
grooming, hygiene, and dress code
