PROGRAM DIRECTOR - ACUTE DIVERSION UNIT

WHO WE ARE - Progress Foundation provides those experiencing symptoms of serious mental illness and other co-occurring disorders with alternatives to institutional placement. We are a private, non-profit mental health agency operating in San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma Counties. The primary treatment philosophy of Progress Foundation is described by the Principles of Social Rehabilitation, which emphasize the role of a home-like treatment environment, the importance of building honorable therapeutic relationships and the significance of encouraging the active participation of the client in their treatment planning.

WORK WITH US! Staff work with clients to create treatment plans tailored to the unique strengths of the individual. Services are targeted to respond to the needs of individuals who are considered severely disabled due to mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse. Progress Foundation provides the full spectrum of treatment from a community-based Psychiatric Crisis Clinic and short-term Crisis Residential to moderate and long-term Transitional Residential treatment. We also provide Case Management Services in independent housing and treatment-focused cooperative living apartments.

OUR SERVICES - Each program level is designed to meet the needs of clients with the level of support necessary for that individual. Admission to all Progress Foundation programs is on a voluntary basis only. Services are specifically targeted to respond to the needs of individuals who are considered severely disabled due to mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse. Program services and staffing reflect a strong commitment to diversity and an awareness of the critical importance of cultural, ethnic, linguistic and social issues in the provision of effective community behavioral health services.​

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the Program Director has full responsibility for all operations of the program. The Program Director is the clinical and administrative leader and is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Progress Foundation policies and procedures and that services are provided in accordance with the agency’s contract with the City and County of San Francisco.

Generally, Program Director duties include: Promoting the philosophy of social rehabilitation as it applies to residential treatment; liaison with the City’s mental health system of care; clinical and personnel supervision; supervising and monitoring client charts, medication documentation. Maintain computer requirements of the City and County of San Francisco Community Behavior Health Services, and reporting of client data; responsibility for facility upkeep; compliance with licensing and certification regulations; scheduling of staff; and providing direct service to clients as is necessary and appropriate. Specific functions are outlined in the job description.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - MHRS REQUIRED

AA in any field + 6 years experience in any mental health related field
BA in any field + 4 years experience in any mental health related field
MA in any field + 2 years experience in any mental health related field

In lieu of MHRS, Progress Foundation will consider the following qualifications:

1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or any other major which includes at least 24 semester college units in one (1) or more of the following subject areas: Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral Sciences, or Psychiatric Nursing; and

2. Two (2) years of full-time work experience in a community program that serves clients who have a mental illness. Such experience must be in the direct provision of services to clients, of which one (1) year must be in the position of supervising direct care staff, or

3. As an alternative to the Bachelor Degree and experience required in 1 and 2, a total of four (4) years of experience in a community program providing direct services to persons with mental disabilities, of which one (1) year must be in a position of supervising direct care staff, and graduation from high school or possession of a GED may be substituted.
