Job Description
The High Temporal and Spatial Imaging Core (HSTRI; Core C) of the Nevada Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in Molecular and Cellular Signal Transduction in the Cardiovascular System, is in need of a highly qualified individual to assist the Core Director, with the management of the HSTRI Core. The HSTRI Core comprises several state-of-the-art instruments that include two Leica Stellaris (X5 and X8) confocal microscopes, one Olympus 4-Line CellTirf total internal reflection fluorescence microscope (TIRFM), one Olympus spinning disc confocal and TIRF microscope, one Leica DMi8/SR GSD-3D super-resolution microscope, one 3i Lattice Lightsheet microscope, two Olympus-based Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) microscope systems, one Nikon-based IonOptix Ca2+ imaging and unloaded cell shortening microscope system, one Molecular Devices ImageXPress Nano fluorescence microscope system, and one Thorlabs Bergamo II Series two-photon fluorescence microscope. The HSTRI also offers computer services for advanced image analysis that include two powerful desktop computers and licenses for the imaging software packages Imaris and SlideBook, and equipment for sample preparation (Leica CM 1850 Cryostat for sectioning frozen tissues and a Microtome for paraffin block sectioning of tissues).
At the Analyst level, the primary duties of the selected individual will be to provide technical support and training of core users, and aid in developing and troubleshooting methods and standard imaging procedures. The candidate will also be involved in the maintenance of Core C equipment, managing a centralized procedure for online scheduling of reservations (QReserve) and compiling metrics in regard to the usage of the microscope systems to be used in progress reports.
At the Specialist or Senior Analyst level, in addition to the tasks described for the Microscopy and Imaging Analyst, the selected individual will be expected to help core users with advanced analysis of their microscope images using various software packages, write standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all instruments managed by the core, bill users for usage of core services that operate on a recharge basis, oversee the generation of financial and scientific reports, attend national and international conferences on microscopy and imaging, and assist the HSTRI Core Director in organizing local scientific workshops on novel microscopy and imaging approaches. The individual will be expected to recruit and supervise staff to assist with the training of users and troubleshooting methods and standard imaging procedures.
Required Qualifications
Analyst
Bachelor's Degree in Physiology, Biophysics or related discipline and two years of related work experience OR
Master's Degree in Physiology, Biophysics or related discipline and one year of related work experience.
Related work experience: experience with two or more of the instruments in the core.
Specialist/Senior Analyst
Bachelor's Degree in Physiology, Biophysics or related discipline and three years of related work experience OR
Master's Degree in Physiology, Biophysics or related discipline and two years of related work experience.
Related work experience: experience with two or more instruments in the core and experience with advanced image analysis with specialized software.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with confocal, super-resolution, and TIRF instruments preferred
Supervisory experience/skills
Experience with advanced image analysis software: ImageJ, Olympus cellSense, Leica LAS X Life Science

Total Compensation
The total compensation package includes a competitive salary, moving allowance (if applicable), a rich retirement plan, health insurance options that include dental and vision, life insurance, thirty (30) days of sick leave provided upon start date and two (2) days of sick leave accrued per full month after the first year of service, two (2) days of annual leave accrued each full month, along with many other benefits.
