POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Supervising Counselor, the AOD Counselor is responsible for delivering programming services to the participants by delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver programming services to the participants;
  • Conduct group and/or individual sessions by utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes;
  • Evaluate and document the progress of participants assigned to their groups;
  • Develop treatment plans with participants that are collaborative, individualized, and responsive to all parties changing needs.
  • Document treatment outcome using acceptable methods and tools;
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records by documenting the delivery of programming services in ARMS;
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participations and completion;
  • Protect and maintain program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
  • Adhere to the scheduled program curriculum.
  • Work collaboratively with CDCR/CCHCS and institutional staff.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and adhere to professional, certification or license, organizational, and CDCR requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries between staff and all participants.
  • Attends and actively participates in all required staff training sessions in accordance with Phoenix House, state licensing requirements, and CDCR requirements and completes all training on time.
  • Attends and participates in program and all staff meetings.
  • Adheres to and promotes the Phoenix House Mission, Vision, and Values while acting as a role model for others.
  • Understand and appropriately apply Phoenix House policies and procedures, and adhere to agency-wide practices and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALSThe minimum qualifications for the AOD Counselor classifications are as follows:Counselor III

Counselor III must meet one (1) of the following minimum requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in a social service-related field; and
  • Licensed by, or registered with, the Board of Behavioral Sciences; or
  • Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field, AOD certified, and six (6) months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • An Associate's Degree in social service-related field, AOD certified, and one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • AOD certified and more than two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.

Note: Social services degree such as Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, and Counseling as defined by the CSU, UC, and California Community Colleges. All closely related fields/degrees shall be considered on a case-by-case basis.Counselor II

Counselor II must meet one (1) of the following minimum requirements:

  • A Master's Degree or above in a social service-related field and
  • Licensed by, or registered with, the Board of Behavioral Sciences; or
  • Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field and AOD certified; or
  • An Associate's Degree in social service-related field, AOD certified, and six (6) months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • AOD certified and one (1) to two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.

The Counselor I must meet one (1) of the following requirements:

  • Less than one (1) year of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; or
  • Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, enrolled in AOD education classes, and six (6) months of experience providing CBI services.

Note: Social services degree such as Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, and Counseling as defined by the CSU, UC, and California Community Colleges. All closely related fields/degrees shall be considered on a case-by-case basis.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Skills and ability to engage and develop a rapport with patients and families of various backgrounds.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Pay: $24.00 - $35.00 per hour
