Applications Technologist, Bakery - Profile Food Ingredients, Elgin, IL

Annual Pay Range: $50k - $70k DOE

General Description

The position of Applications Technologist, Bakery will report to the Director of R&D. It will require an understanding of ingredient functionality, product development, and bakery products. The primary responsibilities of this position will be producing bench samples, conducting plant trials, and troubleshooting bakery products. The Applications Technologist will be involved in development of the product from idealization to commercialization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Developing new products and improving existing products within established guidelines.
  • Researching consumer trends and incorporating into new product ideas.
  • Creating production procedures for new products, including creating production recipes and process guidelines.
  • Creating and maintaining recipes in ERP system.
  • Creating and maintaining quality assurance specifications for products.
  • Troubleshooting product and processes as it relates to recipes.
  • Designing and conducting experiments.
  • Evaluating products.
  • Verifying ingredient specifications (yields, quality characteristics, labeling, etc.).
  • Verifying product recipes and processes.
  • Conducting ingredient and product testing.
  • Performing comparison tests against product competition.
  • Maintaining R&D lab and storage areas, ensuring that equipment is clean and organized.
  • Maintaining R&D databases.
  • Assisting in training new associates.
  • Conducting new product cuttings and samplings.
  • Making presentations to associates in different levels of the company, including hourly associates and upper management.
  • Assisting in other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School or GED equivalency (Bachelor's Degree in Food Science preferred, or related field or related work experience).
  • Minimum 2 years bakery experience, with a focus on cookies, cakes, meringues, pies, and pastries.
  • Must be creative and innovative.
  • Must have knowledge of ingredient functionality.
  • Must have the ability to design experiments.
  • Must have a good understanding of manufacturing operations.
  • Must be willing to assist other team members in other areas.
  • Must be able to document product formulations and procedures accurately.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must demonstrate excellent work habits in line with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's).
  • Must demonstrate safe working habits.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have good human relations skills (the ability to work well with others and be a team player).
  • Must be able to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must show enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
