The Role
What is the role
The objective of the Area Field Coordinator (AFC) role is to ensure that routine maintenance work scopes are safety, effectively, and efficiently executed by Shell and Contractor crafts. This includes behaviors and culture, craft competency and qualification, schedule attainment, effective use and management of resources. The AFC is accountable for work scope delivery of Shell and Contract crafts.
Critical to success in role requires the AFC to build a strong working relationship with Production Team members – from Technical, Operations, and Maintenance – to ensure the team delivers a unit that is a reliable & available asset today and tomorrow.
Activities/Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe work environment and safety focused culture are maintained both in Personal and Process Safety
- Lead daily tailgate meetings to Shell crafts and ensure contractor companies conduct quality tailgates
- Lead well planned & prepared Safety Engagements with team ensuring engagements are engaging and relevant to team.
- Address work place equipment or facility safety issues, ensuring issues are appropriately.
- Ensure crafts, both Shell and contractor, are competent and qualified to complete the work assigned safely
- Review JSA and work permits for accuracy and quality, recognizing excellence and addressing gaps
- Review/audit breathing air and IDLH jobs completed by Shell and contractor crafts
- Know and deliver in role and responsibilities in the Maintenance Execution (ME) Workflow
- Key deliverables include but are not limited to:
- Assign work to crafts, document and update progress toward plan in Daily Assignment Sheet (DAS)
- Provide updates to Scheduler daily and align on execution schedule for the following day
- Confirm scheduled dates with third party vendors
- Review schedules to ensure workable scopes and plans are scheduled to ensure efficient delivery
- Ensure craft availability to delivery scheduled work is confirmed and communicate when changes occur versus plan
- Understanding of assigned area(s) performance in the ME workflow.
- Review Schedule Compliance, E-ticket and Schedule Breaker, PM Compliance, and Overtime performance vs. targets
- As scheduled, fulfill the requirements of the Maintenance Weekend Duty person
- Key deliverables include but are not limited to:
- Support the Quality of the Work Completed
- Ensure crafts, both Shell and contractor, are competent and qualified to complete the work assigned
- Assure completion of work scope is per Shell Standards and applicable Site Orders
- Ensure scope of work is clearly understood by crafts and questions are addressed prior to deploying to work site
- Reward good performance and effectively address underperformance
- Where deviations from Standards or Site Orders are required, escalate within Maintenance or Technical
- Manage Productivity & Efficiency of the Work Activities
- Ensure First Starts start as expected, auditing job sites for safety and providing immediate support to crafts if delays exist
- Report sign-in and permit time including reason for delay if target times not met for KPI reporting
- Manage daily issues, proactively and reactively, that impact the ability of crafts to complete work, such as issues with equipment availability, operations readiness, shared resource availability, tools, rental equipment, materials, etc.
- Distribute work to maximize the ability for team to work effectively while delivering quality work, using both the available Shell and Contractor base resources
- Maintain contact – face to face, verbal (radio/phone) – with Shell and Contract crafts, including third party services, throughout the duration of day/job to ensure work progresses efficiently
- Coordinate all work activities with field presence to assure effectiveness is maintained to a high level while removing barriers
- Solicit/implement improvement of execution opportunities from team
- For overtime work, ensure a clear understanding by crafts who will be executing the work and MSC or Weekend Duty Person. If necessary for successful delivery provide onsite leadership of the overtime work.
- Ensure First Starts start as expected, auditing job sites for safety and providing immediate support to crafts if delays exist
- Supervise and Lead all Shell and Contract Crafts working in the AFC’s Assigned Area
- Set clear expectations and effectively provide feedback to Shell employees on performance both safety, behaviors and craftsmanship that deserves recognition or requires attention
- Have a clear understanding of the Craft Expectation document and ensure team is compliant to those requirements
- Have a clear understanding of Union Contract requirements and Craft related Shell Deer Park Maintenance Policies, including but not limited to the Maintenance Overtime Policy and Craft Vacation Policy.
- Utilize the Employee Discussion Log (EDL) to capture employee overall performance
- Know status of employee’s attendance performance including emergency vacations, late arrivals, and other unplanned absences
- Ensure Shell crafts have the proper training to safely perform work and are compliant with Training required training for their craft & job
- Ensure Shell crafts are compliant with the HSSE Framework Assessments create gap closure plans, and close skill/knowledge gaps
- Annually complete the Performance Annual Review (PAR) form for each craft employee.
- Evaluate skills gaps and develop training to improve overall craft competencies and qualifications including training in advancing technology and tools
- Complete front-line leader training and continue to develop in leadership skills
- Maintain Documentation and Records
- Ensure timely approval/entry of Schedule Pro, TRACK, Service Entry Sheets (SES) & Invoices
- Backfill/support Discipline Coordinator backfill, during vacations, on Fridays off:
- Provide weekly communication regarding the readiness status of upcoming (HW/SW) work
- Provide quality control for all required discipline paperwork & facilitate handoff to Technical
Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
- HS Diploma and equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum in 5 years’ experience Chemical Plant
- Trained in GSAP, Schedulepro
- Knowledge in Track, Primavera
- The ability to manage multiple schedules.
- Advanced knowledge of schedule assurance practices and supporting software tools.
- Advanced knowledge in workface/work package planning.
