The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking Seasonal Intermittent applicants to fill a variety of positions in the Arts-related areas.Seasonal/Intermittent opportunities are located at: The Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts;The Gateway Arts Center;Arts at Harmony Hall Regional Center;Montpelier Arts Center; and Prince George's Publick Playhouse. Please note that not all of the following opportunities are available at this time.Arts on Roll Teaching Artist ($16.00-$26.00/hr.)Qualified artists needed to teach workshops in the Arts on the Roll program. Arts on a Roll is an on-demand arts service that is booked for events, festivals and recurring workshops. Looking for artists with experience teaching visual arts, digital media, storytelling, spoken word and poetry, theater, dance, or music. Must have at least 1 year of teaching in your artistic field, have a valid driver's license, willingness to drive the Arts on a Roll van to various locations, and the ability to facilitate large group activities while maintaining composure and providing the energy to draw in and engage an audience of participants. Artists will work with diverse audiences, from young children to older adults. Flexible hours based on the needs of the program. Ability to work around individual artist's schedule.Instructor ($15.00-$30.00/hr.)Qualified artists to teach visual and performing arts classes. Artists needed to teach a wide variety of art genres and media including all visual arts media and many performing arts specialties. Must be at least 21 years old and have a B.A. in art, architecture, digital media, writing, music, theater, dance, performing arts or an arts-related discipline or equivalent experience.Custodian ($15.00/hr-15.52/hr.)Duties will include floor maintenance, gallery maintenance, lighting maintenance, minor repairs, assisting with moving furniture and equipment, (including setting up and dismantling temporary theatre), as well as cleaning art classrooms, performance area, studio spaces and minor outdoor maintenance. Possession of some of the following skills is helpful: sweeping, mopping, waxing, experience with track lighting, exhibit installation, carpentry, general maintenance, supply requisition, etc.Evening/Weekend Manager ($15.00/hr-$15.52/hr.)An entry level administrative position. Duties will include evening and weekend security, class registration, ticket sales, greeting and assisting the visiting public, information dissemination, exhibit installation, gallery maintenance, exhibit lighting arrangement, operating the facility in the evening and assisting with class programs. College degree in the appropriate field plus facility/administrative experience required or equivalent combination of education or experience. Study in an arts-related discipline is a plus. Possession of some of the following skills is helpful: computer skills, exhibit installation, carpentry, ceramics, writing skills, maintenance, etc.Theater Technician ($15.00/hr-$15.52/hr.)Qualified technicians to set-up, operate, strike and store staging, sound and lighting equipment and repair for arts programs and facilities. Assist user groups with load in and strike, instruct users in the proper and safe use of theatrical equipment. Assist as needed with other projects associated with the facility. Knowledge of some of the equipment, materials, practice and tools used in theatrical lighting, sound rigging, and scenic production; common hazards and necessary safety precautions involved with theatre work; strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, bending, working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and from catwalks, ladders, scaffolds, and bucket lift. College degree or technical certification and experience required.Assistant Technical Director ($11.75-$14.37/hr.)Assist with load in, rehearsals, performances and strikes. Troubleshoot problems with light and sound equipment, train user groups to operate light board, follow spots, supervise part-time technical staff and volunteers, train part-time technical staff, maintain operational records. Assist other programs in the Arts and Cultural Heritage Division. Knowledge of some of the equipment, materials, practice and tools used in theatrical lighting, sound rigging and scenic production. Knowledge of common hazards, and necessary safety precautions involved with theatre work. Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, bending, working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and from catwalks, ladders, scaffolds, and bucket lift. College degree or technical certification and experience required.Administrative Assistant ($15.00/hr-$15.52/hr.)Entry level Arts administration position. Duties will include security, class registration, ticket sales, greeting and assisting the visiting public, information dissemination, data maintenance and storage, mailing list maintenance, assist with timesheets and tracking non-career hours, maintain office supply inventories, assist with volunteer and members programs, and assist with deposits. College degree in the appropriate field plus facility/administrative experience required and/or equivalent combination of education or experience. Study in an arts-related discipline is a plus. Possession of some of the following skills is helpful: computer skills, exhibit installation, carpentry, ceramics, writing skills, maintenance, etc.House Manager ($11.75-$14.37/hr.)Interacts with patrons and guests, supervision of volunteers, concessionaires, and completion of performance reports at the end of the event. Coordinate program operations with stage manager, technicians and box office staff. Maintain a safe and clean lobby and restrooms. College degree in the appropriate field plus facility/administrative experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in the performing arts and excellent customer service skills are a plus. Problem-solving skills are a must.Box Office Operators ($15.00/hr-$15.52/hr.)Works under extreme pressure to meet the ticket sale needs of each performance. Handles daily walk up and night of show ticket sales, cash handling, balance cash and credit card sales, operate computerized ticketing systems, take phone and internet reservations. College degree in theatre or equivalent experience and cash handling experience. Knowledge of general office procedures.Camp Director ($15.00/hr-$16.00/hr.)Candidate will serve as Camp Directors for visual or performing arts camps. Responsible for operating the programs within Youth Camp Standard requirements. Some duties include completion of required paperwork for campers and staff, order materials, conduct in-house site inspections, planning program and work schedules, adhere to camper/staff ratios, overseeing self-administration of medications and preparing for all field trips. Must be 21 years old, have two years experience working with children's programs and attend and complete all M-NCPPC trainings.Camp Assistant ($15.00/hr-$15.52/hr)Candidate will serve as Assistants/Aides to the Camp Directors for visual or performing arts camps. Candidates will adhere to all Youth Camp Standard requirements. Some duties include assisting campers in the execution of visual arts/performing arts projects, accompanying and monitoring campers on all field trips, maintaining order in and between classes, monitoring campers during breaks and meals, monitoring campers during before and after care, and ensuring the safety of campers at all times. Must be 18 or older, have an interest in the visual and/or performing arts, be comfortable working with children from ages 7 to 17 years old, and attend and complete all M-NCPPC trainings.Teen Touring Actor ($15.00/hr)Teen Touring Actors will be selected during open auditions. Dates TBA. Actors are responsible to attend rehearsals twice a week; memorize dialogue; learn songs and dances; and follow the instructions of professional staff; perform 2 shows daily per week; load and unload sets, props, sound equipment, and costumes; lift 50 pounds.Company Manager for Teen Theatre Tour ($15.00/hr-$17.00/hr)Responsible for the daily operations of a company of 10 actors, ages 16-20, who perform 2 shows daily of a non-act musical theater production; drives a modified 15-passenger van to various school and community center locations in Prince George's County; supervises the loading and unloading of sets, props, sound equipment and costumes; operates the sound system during each performance; acts as Assistant to the Director during rehearsals; supervises and collects tme cards from the actors; coordinates the daily schedule, and other duties as assigned.Artistic Director, Prince George's Shakespeare in the Parks ($20.17-$26.00/hr)Organize, plan, and manage a production of a Shakespearian play which is intended for the general public. Hire and supervise all production staff, maintain timetables, monitor quality, and ensure high production values. Research, edit, and re-format scripts where necessary. Lead the creative team with an overall artistic interpretation of production. Audition and select actors, schedule and supervise rehearsals, ensure performance quality. Create all rehearsal and production schedules. Supervise final strike and storage of all equipment and materials. Report to the Performing Arts Specialist. Technical Director, Prince George's Shakespeare in the Parks ($20.17-$26.00/hr)Design complete lighting system for annual outdoor touring production of a Shakespearian play. Attend all planning sessions, production meetings, and designated design rehearsals. Transport and set up rental lighting equipment. Supervise technical assistants. Maintain appropriate safety standards. Operate lighting system during all performances. Supervise nightly strike and final strike and return of all rental equipment. Drive Commission vehicle to all performances. Report to the Performing Arts Specialist. Touring Actors, Prince George Shakespeare in the Parks ($15.00/hr-$15.52/hr)Shakespeare Actors will be selected during open auditions. Only individuals who are selected through auditions will be considered for employment as a touring actor. Please check arts.pgparks.com for information on how to register for auditions. Actors will perform assigned roles in a Shakespearean play in open-air and indoor settings during the month of July. Actors are required to attend all scheduled rehearsals and travel to performance venues in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties at call time. Actors are required to assist in load out of sets, props, sound equipment, and costumes. Actors who sing and play musical instruments will be eligible for higher hourly rate if selected for additional duties. Actors who perform the roles of choreographer or musical director will be eligible for higher hourly rate.
