POSITION SUMMARY:


Assemble various models of product while working at a bench or on the shop floor by performing the following duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the Assembler include the following job duties. The responsibilities are not limited to these tasks:


  • Assemble parts according to standard work / job breakdown sheets of unit being assembled, bill of materials and work order instructions, and assembly drawings
  • Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners according to torque specifications
  • Operates pneumatic and manual presses to assist in assembly operation, which includes setting up the presses
  • Set-up and operate identification equipment (stampers, labelers, etc.)
  • Test product for compliance to meet specifications using manual and automatic test equipment
  • Paint, label and pack completed product for shipment
  • Achieve daily departmental productivity and quality levels
  • Follow all ISO procedures and safety rules, including wearing personal safety equipment
  • Keep Team Lead informed of mechanical/machine malfunctions or any supplies/tools needed
  • Handle product to and from stock
  • Perform in-process testing and make necessary corrections to meet standard work and Procedures for Qualification (PFQ)
  • Notify team lead of non-conformance material
  • Report changes in work orders, bill of materials, and pick lists to team lead.
  • Contribute to department/cell communication boards
  • Check off and sign work order cover sheets
  • Complete daily hour by hour production sheet
  • Maintain work area in accordance with 5S standards
  • Identify and report all safety issues to team lead
  • Participate and/or lead continuous improvement events and training
  • Suggest ideas for overall improvements to the area processes
  • Cross-train across multiple product lines
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Minimum of six (6) months Assembly or related experience preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS:


  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions in English, short correspondence, and memos, such as supervisory instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and work orders
  • Ability to effectively share information about job duties in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers; to multiple and divide with 10’s and 100’s
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as proportions and percentages
  • Ability to perform these operations using all units of measure

REASONING ABILITY:


  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:


  • Forklift certification is required to operate forklift equipment, but is not a required job responsibility for assembly

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear OSHA approved safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toe safety shoes. Gloves are required to be worn when handling or moving parts. OSHA approved hearing protection (ANSI approved ear plugs) is required when on the shop floor. Painters must wear a respirator.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move boxes that weigh up to 50 pounds. The employee may be required to lift and/or move bar stock/baskets that vary in weight above these amounts. The employee must get assistance from other co-workers or by using a material handling device, forklift, or hand truck when lifting items
  • The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, airborne particles and vibration from hammering of parts and using hand tools
  • Since it is a manufacturing environment, the noise level is usually loud due to the different machinery being operated (i.e. forklifts, hand tools, machines in other departments) and the testing that occurs. Normal noise exposure in the area ranges from 80-90 d BA; hearing protection is required while on the plant floor
