Using a strengths-based, culturally competent approach shaped by the principles of restorative justice, the Service Works (SW) Coordinator coaches, supervises, mentors, and motivates youth and young adults who need to fulfill community service obligations due to their behavior at school or in the community. The Coordinator receives and processes community-based referrals from juvenile justice, law enforcement, and school partners; develops and maintains partnerships with referents, area nonprofits, and community initiatives; and develops and coordinates meaningful and relevant community service projects in which youth will participate under the Coordinator’s guidance.

The Coordinator supports youth in completing community service opportunities by providing social and emotional support, transportation, training, coaching, and direct supervision. The Coordinator also monitors the youths’ plan completion and the effectiveness of the intervention and keeps key stakeholders of the youths’ progress.

The Coordinator works in tandem with the Director of Service Works to develop and maintain important relationships with community partners and referral sources, including local schools, law enforcement, the Juvenile Court and Juvenile Community Corrections Officers, and nonprofit organizations that are end-recipients of SW-led community service projects.

This position contributes to the accomplishment of LearningWorks’ mission through the provision of planning and directing the activities of the program and requires collaborating with all Service Works locations to complete assignments; working directly with students and clients; working with stakeholders; performing administrative duties such as collecting and tracking of program data, and preparing program reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (essential functions of the job)

Achievement of all possible outcomes with youth, performing some or all of the following direct service activities:

Completing referral and intake documentation and process with youth and their caregivers, tracking and documenting youth progress and maintaining accurate records, and providing timely and accurate information to community stakeholders;

Developing and monitoring the implementation of a service plan that addresses the key areas targeted for youth improvement or change through observable and measurable goals, objectives, and activities that incorporate restorative practices;

Developing and coordinating restorative community service activities for referred youth, including, but not limited to, the following: trail/park clean up, community gardening and landscaping, soup kitchen assistance, mitigation or repair of vandalism, and projects benefitting victims, area nonprofits and/or service organizations;

Overseeing, coaching, motivating, and assisting youth and students to full participation in restorative community service projects, including providing occasional transportation and ensuring that youth and students conduct themselves in a safe and appropriate manner while on outings;

Mentoring and engaging youth and students through reflective dialogue about the principles of restorative justice, as applied to the reason for their referral to the Service Works program;

When necessary, working individually on select community service projects when youth cannot be present;

Maintaining productive and respectful relationships with victims, referred youths’ caregivers, referral sources (Department of Corrections, schools, attorneys, courts, law enforcement) nonprofit community partners, municipal staff, property owners, and other recipients of restorative community service projects administered by Service Works through face-to-face, email, and phone contact;

Ensuring that all necessary safety and logistical provisions are made with partners and stakeholders in advance of any direct or student/youth involvement in restorative community service projects;

Ensuring youth and their caregivers are connected to or made aware of other community services that will be to their benefit, and preparing necessary service completion/discharge paperwork;

Preparing timely statistical data for use by the Director for monthly, quarterly, annual, and other reports required by LearningWorks, the Department of Corrections, and School personnel;

Contributing to quality assurance through reporting of youth outcome data, compliance with Agency policies, and regulatory standards, particularly client confidentiality, summary and timely preparation of other information the Director requests;

Making effective use of technology to increase the efficiency of the program through the identification of opportunities for automation, participation in the use of databases, and assisting staff in their use of these databases

Contributing to the marketing activities for the program;

Achieving personal, and professional goals for conferences and training as negotiated each year;

Contributing to quality assurance by ensuring that standards are followed through within the program, incidents are being reported, and programs are in compliance with LearningWorks’ policies; and

Actively participating in supervision with the direct supervisor and attending staff meetings and participating in organization-wide training as scheduled.

SERVICE ENVIRONMENT

All duties involve working in and around central Agency administrative offices, at program sites, in the community, and in client homes, requiring some travel.

Must be able to exert moderate physical effort with occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, driving, typing, and lift and up to 25 pounds. Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with family visitation, e.g. climbing stairs, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Experience working with teen youth or students in education, social work, corrections, or another supervisory setting;

Knowledge of the juvenile justice and education systems, as substance abuse and restorative justice practices, is preferred.

Experience and/or comfort with hands-on, project-based community service activities;

Comfort communicating with professionals from a wide variety of fields, and acting as a point of contact for community service projects;

Strong attention to detail; Communication and conflict resolution skills;

Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively as required;

Highly organized with project management experience required;

Some experience with landscaping, property maintenance, or tools is desirable;

Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements;

Experience working with diverse teams with a range of cultural backgrounds is desirable;

The core schedule is negotiable, with the flexibility to meet the program needs required;

Experience using smartphone technology and computers including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Drive, Slack, and map applications;

The position involves the operation of a motor vehicle to conduct Agency business on a frequent basis for purposes such as transporting youth, traveling to appointments and meetings, or running errands. A good driving record is required. Copies of vehicle registration, driver’s license, and proof of insurance must be kept on file.

Compensation and Benefits:

The hourly rate is $18 per hour. This is a full time non-exempt 40 hour a week position.
