Position Summary

The Dean of Students office, in collaboration with Nusenda Credit Union seeks an Assistant Director to help develop and implement the Center for Financial Capability. The purpose of the Assistant Director is to assist in affording interested applicants with the opportunity to facilitate interactive financial literacy training with students, parents and families at the University of New Mexico. In conjunction with Nusenda Federal Credit Union, this position will assist in providing resources to help students be more financially proficient and make better financial decisions that will impact the rest of their lives. Students eligible for service will possess variable financial and budgeting proficiency and must be students studying business in the Anderson School of Management. The successful applicant will have experience giving presentations, must be dynamic and flexible, must have an aptitude and should have interest in performing research on financial topics. This position will be customer service oriented but will also be ready to learn client interaction and financial advisement. The successful Assistant Director will be interested in learning more about how to provide students and families with the opportunity to better understand financial resources, responsibilities, and best practices.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Assist in developing educational materials and educational presentations for New Student Orientation and other populations.
  • Support marketing professionals in the development of promotional material.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering presentations to classes, student groups, incoming freshmen, transfer students and their families on student financial capability topics such as credit, student loans, money management and budgeting.
  • Assist in the evaluation programs and collect surveys related to financial capability training and their efficacy.
  • Receive training in financial literacy to help assist with the ongoing execution of the program
  • Assist in the preparation of facilitated workshops and budget discussions with parents and families through the Family Connection Program. Includes weekly speaking workshop for Family Connection Program during the summer New Student Orientation sessions.
  • Table for NUSENDA/financial literacy during New Student Orientation tabling opportunities each week during freshman and TNT orientation sessions as needed
  • Assist in the promotion and marketing the Center for Financial Capability and its services to aid in the establishment of the Center in the Dean of Student’s Office at the University of New Mexico.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of four workshops during each semester on various financial topics to incentivize students to continue to build their financial management skills. Also track attendance and baseline utilization records from these workshops.
  • Must be an Anderson School of Management student studying business, with preference for finance and accounting majors. Opportunities for Internship credit may be available to students who meet these criteria.
  • Consult with student clients on budget management and financial responsibility as needed in one-on-one meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality agreements with clients.
  • Attend monthly performance check-ins to evaluate fellow performance and duties, as well as receive/provide program feedback in areas to improve the pilot program.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience giving presentations to crowds of people
  • Aptitude and interest in conducting research on Financial topics.
  • Ability and interest to commit two years of service to the position
  • Zealous and enthusiastic student interested in growth and opportunities for promotion
  • Prior experience in public speaking
  • An interest in finance of financial management
  • Familiarity with special populations
  • Ability to connect with diverse populations
