We are interviewing Assistant Golf Course Superintendent candidates who enjoy playing golf and want to provide an exceptional playing experience for our members. Las Posas Country Club was built in 1959, located in a Mediterranean type of climate in Camarillo, CA. It is in close proximity to the ocean and a great opportunity for someone who is looking to advance in their career. We have Poa/Bent on pushup native greens. Bermuda tees that are over-seeded in the winter. Kikuyu fairways and rough. Every year, we spray out cool season grass for a monostand of turf. Rainbird Cirrus irrigation system.

Under the superintendent's supervision, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course and other areas; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The assistant golf course superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED


  • 3-5 years turf grass management experience required.
  • A four-year college degree preferred, but not required.
  • GCSAA Member preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
  • A strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business.
  • Highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices.
  • Thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • A high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days and trade shows.
  • May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent assists in managing and maintaining golf course properties, which may include:


  • The golf course(s).
  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of specified areas; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.
  • Other properties as specified by the golf course maintenance operation.
  • Interviews, hires, trains and supervises a staff of employees for maintaining the properties.
  • Frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate management standards and effect changes in management programs.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
  • Works closely with Superintendent in managing annual budget and maintenance recordkeeping.
  • Works closely with Superintendent in preparing short-term and long-term agronomic strategies to maintenance of the golf course daily, weekly, monthly and yearly fertilization, irrigation, etc. schedules.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to withstand outside working conditions.
  • Able to make decisions to benefit the company.
  • Good communication skills and work with others in a team atmosphere
  • The employee is often required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls.
  • They will occasionally be required to balance, stoop, twist upper body, kneel, and climb.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Able to hear others and communicate.
  • Noise level is typically moderate to loud.
  • Work extended hours during golf and holiday season.
  • Valid driver’s license.
