VALLEY TRANSIT DISTRICT
The Valley Transit District (VTD) is a public transportation agency serving the Naugatuck Valley communities of Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, and Seymour. The VTD’s mission is to provide safe and reliable paratransit service to all residents of our communities.
Key Responsibilities
Performs maintenance and preventive maintenance repairs on VTD’s fleet of buses/vehicles such as oil changes, check/replace tires, check/replaces brakes, replace spark plugs, engine component repairs, and engages in similar mechanical tasks as directed by the lead mechanic or Executive Director.

Fuel, grease, lubricate autos, busses, and other internal compensation equipment.

Performs Facility Maintenance and preventative maintenance functions as directed by the lead mechanic or Executive Director.

Preparing work orders, making repairs to equipment, and maintaining logs of all maintenance activities. Ability to use computer to create/update vehicle and facility maintenance work orders.

Assists lead mechanic with diagnosing and repairing electrical systems and wheelchair lifts.

Performs road service calls as needed.

Test drives vehicles/buses to ensure repairs are completed properly.

Pick up automotive/bus parts, supplies and vehicles when required. Fuels vehicles as needed.

Wash buses/Autos- Cleans shop and tools-

Clean garage, dump trash, sweep and mop floors

Operate autos and buses on public roadways

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:

Good knowledge of tools, techniques, and terminology associated with the automotive mechanics’ trade; good knowledge of the accident and safety precautions of the trade; ability to perform difficult repairs on all types of automotive equipment; ability to diagnose mechanical difficulties; demonstrated ability to get along well with others; physical strength and agility; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
Qualification Requirements
Experience Required: Three years of experience maintaining and servicing automotive equipment.

Pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and background check is required.

Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Reports directly to the lead mechanic or Executive Dir. Position is represented by the ATU Local 1607.

Pay: Hourly $23.76 Starting

Effort: Full time, year round

• Self-directed in carrying out duties of the position
• Responds timely to instructions given by the lead Mechanic and the Executive Director
