Summary Description of Classification:

Under direction of the principal, assists with administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for the students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the Bibb County School District. Functions include establishing a climate conducive to learning, planning, and coordinating programs, effecting change, and decision-making.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;
  • Supports development of principal’s school-wide vision and takes an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school; owns the implementation of school priorities in support of the school-wide vision;
  • Provides leadership and coordination in the regular instructional program;
  • Works with the principal to establish goals that are applicable to the total school program; monitors and studies the program and operation of the school to check progress made toward established goals;
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining effective learning goals;
  • Works with the principal and teachers to plan a program of study to meet individual needs, interests and abilities of students;
  • Enforces guidelines and rules for student behavior and conduct established in Code of Conduct;
  • Assist the principal in supervising the school’s instructional process; schedules classroom visits and conducts observations as necessary; examines and monitors student records as required;
  • Help with planning, organizing and implementing school programs and activities;
  • Coordinates the study and selection of materials, media, equipment, instructional strategies and programs that may have merit for the school program;
  • Helps in establishing and maintaining positive school-community relationships;
  • Observes and evaluates school personnel as required or assigned;
  • Serves as the person in charge when the principal is away from the building;
  • Supports the principal in identifying and developing emerging and teacher leaders through goal setting, coaching and providing feedback;
  • Cultivates own growth, sustainability and success through active participation in district-wide professional development and by seeking out high-impact growth opportunities; and

  • Demonstrated belief that all students, regardless of background, can achieve;
  • Demonstrated student achievement results in own classroom and from teachers that he/she manages;
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate high-leverage instructional strategies;
  • Demonstrated investment in and understanding of appropriate application of social emotional strategies to promote the development of the whole child;
  • Demonstrated skill in data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights from classroom, team or grade level data;
  • Ability to drive student achievement results through others;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees, students, parents, community groups and others required;
  • Ability to develop teachers through providing helpful feedback and/or professional learning opportunities;
  • Ability to facilitate and ensure positive outcomes of teacher teams and/or professional learning communities; and
  • Must be technologically adept and literate.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Tier I or II certification at Level 5 or higher required or be eligible for a non-renewable Ed. Leadership – Tier I certification while completing Ed Leadership Tier I program requirements.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a teacher, counselor, academic coach or similar role in a K-12 educational setting is required.
  • Prior experience in urban school district preferred.

Salary/Terms/Benefits:

  • 200 contract days
  • Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule and position supplement(s), with an additional supplement.
