Assistant Professor of Education, UT Southern (Pulaski, TN)

Instructor/Assistant Professor of Education with degree in STEM, Secondary or related field. Primary purpose is to teach 9 hours, serve as an advisor to Secondary Education licensure candidates and may include supervision of clinical experiences. Responsible for demonstrating scholarly competence in the field. Experience in 6-12 schools highly recommended.

Teaching the prescribed course load and, as appropriate, advising. Included are such activities as:

• Adherence to procedural guidelines and policies regarding teaching;
• Use of teaching strategies designed to encourage critical thinking and intellectual development;
• Use of teaching strategies designed to engage and motivate students;
• Adaptation of subject matter and instruction to the needs of the students;
• Appropriate, transparent, and unbiased evaluation of students;
• Evaluation of teaching and the use of evaluation data to achieve improvement;
• Incorporation of applicable, up-to-date subject matter into one’s courses;
• Participation in seminars or workshops with evidence of application to teaching;
• Implementation, as appropriate, of innovative teaching strategies;
• Development of courses and curricula, as appropriate, in response to new opportunities or changing needs of students;
• Direction of student research projects or creative works, as appropriate, above and beyond expected course load and duties.

Supervising clinical experiences as needed and, as appropriate,

• Service on governance committees, task forces, and ad hoc committees;
• Performance of any special responsibilities requested by the administration;
• Service to the profession;
• Service to the community done pro bono and specifically related to the position's academic discipline.

Required Education:
Master's Degree

Required knowledge
Specialist's knowledge in STEM or Secondary Education
Knowledge of licensure programs and public schools, especially grades 6-12

Required Skills
Mastery of teaching strategies that will engage and motivate students and encourage critical thinking and intellectual development.

Ability
Able to maintain a high level of personal integrity and professional competence, as demonstrated in teaching, research, and service.
Able to conduct oneself professionally with colleagues, maintaining the mutual respect and confidence of one's colleagues.

Preferred Education
Doctoral Degree in Secondary Education, STEM Education, or related field
