UPN is seeking an AVP of Finance for our Kansas City, MO location. The AVP, Finance leads, engages, and inspires the Finance team of (5) people and has general responsibility for the function and the team’s outputs. Key boundary partners for this role include the Accounting, Procurement & Capital Projects, and Business Integration & Data Management teams, as well as all departmental leaders.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Define and implement best practices: UPN is a dynamic business that is growing and scaling at the same time (i.e. “changing the wheels while driving down the road”). The AVP, Finance will define and implement best practices to scale the Finance function including conversion of processes and workflows from Excel to the ERP system, SQL data warehouse, PowerBI (dashboards/data visualization), and CaptivateIQ (commissions system).
  • Budget, forecast, and long-range plan: oversees and contributes to creation of the annual budget, intra-year forecasts, and the long-range plan. Partners with departmental leaders and the UPN executive team to build a budget that reflects the company’s growth and return on capital goals.
  • Management reporting: oversees and contributes to the creation of monthly management and board reporting: the source of truth for the company’s performance against key financial and operational targets.
  • Business partner to department leaders: partners with departmental leaders and our executive team to manage to our financial targets. Surfaces insights (i.e. risks and opportunities) from actual results and forecasting that help inform when and how we should change course.
  • Sales reporting/revenue operations: oversees and ensures accurate sales reporting; oversees the revenue waterfall and related revenue analysis.
  • Ad hoc financial analysis: structures, drives and communicates ad hoc analysis as requested by the board, executive leadership, and department leaders. Ad hoc analysis could relate to all aspects of the P&L, return on capital, operational KPIs, market expansion or M&A.
  • Capabilities and key boundary partners collaboration:

o Accounting: the AVP, Finance should have a functional understanding of the Accounting function (GL accounting, Billing, AR, AP, Payroll, etc.) and partner effectively with the Controller to reflect Accounting changes in UPN’s financial reporting, help the Controller manage working capital, and continue to enhance UPN’s market and product reporting capability

o Procurement & Capital Projects: the AVP, Finance should have a functional understanding of capital accounting and collaborate with the SVP of Capital Projects to forecast UPN’s$100M+ annual capital budget

o Data Management/Business Process: the AVP, Finance should have a functional understanding of data architecture and business process and collaborate with the SVP of Business Integration & Data Management to enhance finance-related workflows and dashboards.

Requirements for the position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years leading an FP&A (or related) team in a corporate setting including responsibility for presenting results and analysis to an executive audience
  • 10+ years performing sophisticated financial analysis in corporate or professional services setting
