The Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs is a hub for creative thinking and innovation on the most pressing public policy challenges of our time. The mission of the Goldfarb Center is to connect the Colby community to real-world public policy issues, support student and faculty engagement and advancement, and serve as a catalyst for solving problems while expanding educational opportunities. Through its thoughtful and creative programming, the Goldfarb Center brings together public policy leaders, innovative thinkers, influential politicians, community activists, and cutting-edge academics, in order to engage students across disciplines.

Reporting to the executive director of the Goldfarb Center, the associate director of the Goldfarb Center will be a key partner in developing and expanding the Center’s programming. The associate director will oversee the Center’s operations and will be responsible for creating systems and processes that support the Goldfarb Center's central initiatives. This position will also play a key communications role serving as a representative on campus and working closely with students, faculty, and external stakeholders.

The associate director is an essential member of the Goldfarb Center. This position offers a unique opportunity to partner with the Center’s leadership to build the Center’s scope and influence across the College and beyond. The successful candidate will have an understanding of an institution like Colby, a commitment to student leadership and faculty advancement, and an interest in establishing Colby as a center for public policy thinking, leadership and action. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with the executive director to guide, implement, and evolve the Center’s strategic and operational goals
  • Provide project implementation to advance the vision and mission of the Center
  • Partnering with the executive director, serve as a liaison for the Center to other campus offices and assist in the integration of the Center with external partners
  • Work with executive director to develop strategic partnerships for the Center throughout the campus, community, and globally
  • Serve on campus-wide committees and working groups as needed
  • Develop and manage the Center’s operations and systems
  • Oversee data-gathering, written reports, and other means of reporting and assessment for Center initiatives
  • Work with members of the Goldfarb Student Executive Board, Faculty Advisory Board, faculty and staff to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate programming and events
  • Manage the logistics for the Center's wide range of events, including but not limited to the Lovejoy Convocation, Mitchell Distinguished International Lecture, Brody Award Ceremony, Cotter Debate series, and individual center lectures and panel discussions
  • Work closely with Communications to oversee and implement the Goldfarb Center’s communications and media strategy to enhance its presence in the regional, national, and international community through print media and digital platforms
  • Establish and maintain productive communication and work-flow with colleagues in College and Student Advancement to realize the center’s development goals
  • Manage contracts and budgets in collaboration with the director, Risk Management, Financial Services, and Financial Planning
  • Partner closely with the Office of Communications to promote the Center's events through a wide range of communications tools, including email notices, social media, posters, word of mouth, and outreach to members of internal and external community
  • Maintain Goldfarb Center website, including but not limited to updating events, archiving event video/audio recordings, archiving newsletters, and updating homepage slider
  • Supervise all administrative areas to assure effectiveness and efficiencies in accordance with the Center’s goals
  • Collaborate with DavisConnects to plan, organize, and execute the Mayflower Hill to Capitol Hill DC Program and facilitated internship
  • Assist with the grant process for the Sandy Maisel Student Internship Grant, the Sandy Maisel Student Research Grant, and the Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Grant
  • Develop leadership capabilities among students in coordination with the faculty director
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate student workers
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive work experience, higher education, or non-profit organizations
  • Proven experience with budget management, event planning, program development and implementation, and project management
  • Positive approach to work and appreciation of the importance of public policy for creating change in our community

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
Reporting to the executive director of the Goldfarb Center, the associate director of the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs will work closely with faculty and student committees as well as work closely with Colby’s students, faculty, internal and external stakeholders, supporters, and alumni.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Must be able to work additional hours during busy periods, including evenings. Ability to interact with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external constituencies regularly is crucial.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful and satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check). All students, faculty, and staff who are present on campus must be vaccinated and boostered against COVID-19, unless granted an exemption or accommodation by the College.
