The Associate Food Scientist will support new product development, existing product improvement, new ingredient qualifications, and product specification management. This individual will work with the R&D team and cross-functional partners to identify issues and put together recommendations for solutions.

Ways you will make a difference

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Leads project design and methodology for various product & process development projects including, but not limited to: sugar confectionery, ingredient applications, and network moves.
  • Develop new product formulas from bench to pilot scale and into full scale execution while providing technological expertise and ideal process recommendations
  • Consistently deliver concise, accurate and complete reporting of work, leading to robust technical recommendations for both product & process improvements as well as risk identification
  • Document key data from trials, productions, and lab activities.
  • Observes, records, evaluates experimental data and prepares project reports.
  • Utilize problem-solving tools/statistics to establish process control limits and specifications
  • Collaborate with R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing staff in project execution, technology transfer, and problem solving.
  • Actively participates in the Innovation process & supports building brands innovation pipelines.
  • Passion for creativity and innovation within a commercially driven environment.
  • Brings new ideas on products and process across the product range.
  • Provide leadership and support, being able to proactively influence in product & process technical aspects of the network moves across existing brands.
  • Provides strong cross-functional partnership with Marketing, Project management team, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams, to ensure an efficient and successful project progress and execution.
  • Travels, both domestically and internationally (up to 25% of job)
  • Ensures adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Understands and demonstrates the Company’s core values.
  • Collaborate with the Manager weekly to ensure full alignment on project initiatives, plans, and next steps
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills that will make you successful

  • 1+ years of relevant work experience in product development in the food industry
  • Strong knowledge of food science, food chemistry & ingredient functionality
  • Strong knowledge of the product development process and equipment processes/operations
  • Great understanding/appreciation of the broader business environment and application of technical and commercial knowledge during project execution.
  • Ability to develop commercially successful food products
  • Enjoys working in results-oriented team environment
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues / solutions to a non-technical audience.
  • Diplomacy to promote good relations
  • Strong technical competencies with ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Self-starter, self-motivating: able to balance competing priorities without losing momentum and manage uncertainty and complexity in fast evolving environments.
  • Very Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence with integrity through persuasive communication to win support at more senior levels within R&D, Operations and Supply Chain and to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders from different levels, backgrounds and cultures
  • The ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel to Mexico
