Background & Purpose of the Job
The Innovation Planner is responsible for delivering the supply chain aspects of new product development. A successful Innovation Planner will collaborate on cross-functional teams, contribute to project timelines, advocate design for supply chain, engage relevant partners and manage system/network set up for new items. The key deliverables are 1) Delivering innovations on-time and in-full 2) SAP/Item setup execution 3) Waste mitigation - materials, FG, capex 4) Continuous improvement - innovation forecast accuracy, product lead times etc. and 5) Flawless project hand-offs to production/Supply Planning team

Who You Are & What You’ll Do
  • Partner on cross functional teams to deliver innovation and renovation projects and support the project owner in delivery. In some instances, the innovation planner will be the project owner.
  • Help to scope projects, define supply chain activities and timeline required to ensure ability to launch, then deliver on the timeline throughout the project.
  • Own the supply chain elements of innovation project plans from kick-off/scoping through first delivery, engaging with the relevant supply planner to transition from innovation to steady state production.
  • Ensure that the Supply Chain has the necessary capacities and capabilities to produce the innovations for all assigned sourcing sites engaging strategic planning and procurement as needed.
  • Coordinate required inputs to the business case for the innovation projects in terms of capital expenditure and SC drivers, working closely with the Procurement, Planning and Engineering teams.
  • Prepare Supply Chain inputs for gate documents and decision outlines as needed for the project owner.
  • Own and maintain the overall project networks for new variants and operational projects, as required to ensure “on time in full” delivery; by working closely with R&D, Marketing, Finance, Procurement, Engineering, Quality and factories.
  • Signal SC risk on innovation assortments to project teams – advise on options to mitigate alt sourcing, product mix etc. balancing margin/revenue tradeoffs and original project scope.
  • Develop plans to reduce lead times, improve margin over time.
  • Support project lead in risk assessments, gather inputs from supply planning stakeholders and make sure action plans are embedded in the SC timeline.
  • Support complexity reduction activities and sourcing analysis for innovation projects by working closely with Strategic Planning and Finance.
  • Manage communication with all key project stakeholders relating to Supply Chain activities.
  • Coordinate with country/customer teams to ensure their requirements are folded into the innovation design process and that roll-out plans are prepared for the follower markets.
  • In partnership with Procurement maintain a Risk and Contingency Planning (RACP) matrix for all key raw/pack materials and ensure that risk mitigation actions are in place for the innovation projects within your portfolio.
  • In partnership with Strategic Planning team, ensure that the capacity and bandwidth analysis for key suppliers and sourcing units pertinent to the innovation portfolio is complete.
  • Support transition/flawless hand off from supply chain innovation to steady state supply planning.
  • Ensure rigorous application of best practice innovation planning tools.
  • Ensure delivered Quality for innovations, maintaining all Unilever safety standards.

What You’ll Need To Succeed
  • Bachelor’s degree (Business, Supply chain, R&D, Engineering preferred).
  • MBA or APICs Certification is preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Supply Chain (Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, Engineering or Logistics) or in R&D with experience on new product development
  • Project management skills (working knowledge of MS Project, MS Office).
  • Basic appreciation level of how manufacturing works
  • Location: Burlington, VT; Englewood Cliffs, NJ; or Hybrid
