The Audio Description writer must write clear, concise and timed scripts describing on-screen visuals in language appropriate to the style and intended audience of the program. The purpose of these scripts is to make the visual content accessible to a blind or low-vision audience.
You need to recognize important details in the program that need to be conveyed to visually impaired people, and understand how to match the tone of the description to the tone of the content. You should enjoy working in a collaborative environment and have the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Required Criteria: Strong creative writing skills, including a keen ability to describe on-screen action, settings, characters, and states of emotion within the time constraints of the "holes" between dialogue. Ability to adapt to a unique writing style, follow technical directions and learn to use multiple software packages. Excellent grammar and vocabulary.
Educational requirements: BA or BS degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, TV/Film Production, or equivalent experience.
