Bar Manager Job Description

*If you are interested in this position, come to the property and fill out an application between 12 and 3 PM Mon thru Fri.** This is a position that will manage and oversee our poolside bar on our hotel property. Candidate must present experience in a similar position and references. Responsibilities include bartending during regular shifts, inventory, recruiting, booking musicians and training personnel. The position will include a base salary plus tips.

Guest interaction and customer service are key to providing a great experience to our guests. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices, and procedures. This is a single-person full service bar, open 2 PM - 8 PM weekdays and 2 - 10 PM on weekends. Hourly compensation is based upon experience.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

• Greet and converse with guests to suggest or receive a cocktail order in a timely manner
• Implement hotel pool and spa rules regarding guests
• TIPS trained
• Efficiently prepare and serve cocktails to customers/ cocktail servers in pool area following the sequence of service standards set forth by management
• Provide exceptional service to customers
• Possess complete beverage knowledge of all products served
• Ensure the correct glassware/stemware is used according to department standards
• Check ID's if the guest appears to be under 30
• Follow Alcohol Awareness techniques as needed
• Adhere to all responsible alcohol serving requirements as dictated by the state
• Handle monetary transactions at the point of sales system (credit cards and room charges) in accordance with department policies and procedures
• Communicate with fellow employees and Managers regarding Guest requests
• Consistently deliver exceptional service to every Guest while interacting in a professional manner
• Possess a positive attitude towards the Guest and fellow employees to meet and exceed the Best Western pool standards
• Know all aspects of our business and match it to the Guest's needs to exceed their expectations
• Make positive eye contact with the Guest
• Maintain alert posture, appearing approachable to Guests
• Maintain utmost respect and courtesy for Guests at all times
• Maintain professional and well-groomed appearance, posture and hygiene
• Maintain sanitation, cleanliness, and ensure the health and safety of our Guests and fellow employees at all times
• Maintain a clean and hygienic workstation in accordance with Sarasota County Health Standards
• Maintains quality services standards with all guests by creating a friendly, relaxed atmosphere while coordinating service requests
• Prepare order to replenish stock at the bar to pre-determined par levels
• The workstation must be maintained and left stocked and cleaned for next shift
• Possess the ability to work in a team environment
• Maintain flexibility to perform other job-related tasks as deemed necessary by management
• Be able to perform a task that requires standing and/or moving at a fast pace for periods of up to eight hours or longer
• Communicate with Management to keep them informed of all special requests from a guest as well as any potential problems or concerns
• Assist new employees with training and answering questions
• Be ethical and professional at all times
• Perform all duties as deemed necessary for the success of the department
• Work special events as needed for the successful operation of the department
• Must have an excellent upbeat attitude and personality with the ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds
• Observe and direct actions of Bar Backs and to inspect and maintain areas for which responsible
• Consistently use suggestive selling techniques

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required:

• Previous bartending experience
• Ability to deal effectively with guests, management, employees and outside contacts while working under pressure and meeting deadlines
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment and maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude
• Ability to speak and to listen in a public forum
• Manage multiple tasks and remain calm in very high paced and stressful environment and work under pressure
• Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Basic math skills
• Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must have basic knowledge of wines and spirits.

Preferred:

• Previous experience working in a similar tiki bar setting
• Minimum 1 year bartender experience

WORK CONDITIONS:

• Must be willing to work outdoors in seasonal heat or cold as well as inclement weather
