Bicycle Mechanic Job at YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County Inc
Know how to repair a bicycle? The YMCA is looking for an experienced bike mechanic to support its Lend-A-Wheel Bicycle Recycling Program and Community Bike Repair Events. The Lend-A-Wheel program accepts donated bicycles, repairs them, and makes them available to members of the community who need basic transportation. Repair events are held monthly and members of the public bring their bikes for evaluation and repair. Reporting to the Bicycle Program Manager, this position requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and to act as an ambassador for the YMCA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess and repair bicycles for Lend-A-Wheel recipients and repair clinic participants, repair bicycles for resale and for use in YMCA programs
- Educate the public about the safe operation and maintenance of bicycles
- Assist with the purchase of parts and accessories
- Maintain a safe, clean & organized workspace
- Work cooperatively with YMCA Staff and volunteers
- Moving & lifting bicycles up to 50 lbs. is a regular part of this job but reasonable accommodation can be made
- Be a public supporter of the YMCA & represent the organization with positivity & consistency
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2+ years of experience working in a high-volume bike shop
- Ability to quickly and efficiently repair many different kinds of used bikes
- Consistent attention to quality and detail
- Ability to meet quantitative production and service goals
- Effective communicator
- Work with minimal supervision – be autonomous, task-oriented, and self-starting.
- Commitment to and respect for equity, sustainability and diversity
Hours: Up to 16 hours per week, schedule to be determined.
Wage: $15.00/hr.
