The Role:

The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) seeks a Bridge to Resilient Youth in Transition (BRYT) Academic Support Manager. The BRYT Academic Support Manager is primarily response for assisting high-risk adolescents in their re-entry back into the school community after extended mental health/health-related absences. They will guide students needing intensive academic and social-emotional support in transitioning back to school to make rapid progress towards returning to classes and achieving credits to complete the school year on track. They will communicate with families, outside providers, and school staff on the students’ support team to ensure that each student is on track academically as they re-integrate to school.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the academic component of the overall case management plan for each student in BRYT.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, including modifying existing curriculum and developing modular units allowing BRYT students to rapidly achieve credit.
  • Develop and maintain a work tracking and academic data management system for students in BRYT.
  • Pro-actively communicate with teacher colleagues and school administrators regarding the academic program, requirements, progress, and status of each student in BRYT.
  • Engage in consistent two-way communication with families of BRYT students to keep them apprised of student progress and gather feedback and information to support student learning and well-being.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students; develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and mastery of content in conjunction with students’ teachers; work to establish deadlines and clear objectives towards work completion for each student.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for each student’s learning style.
  • Manage and guide tutors and collaborate with the Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) to secure tutors for the program.
  • Coordinate with the Hospital Academic Liaison if a student is hospitalized while in the program.
  • Engage and participate in BRYT in-take meetings and collaborate with each student’s guidance counselor.
  • Attend and provide input at IEP/504 meetings about academic progress and needed accommodations.
  • Attend and provide updates on student’s academic progress in weekly wraparound meetings.
  • Assess the accomplishments and progress of students on a regular basis and provide regular check-ins with students about their academic progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the BRYT social worker to assess and triage the students’ academic and social-emotional needs and adjust each student’s academic transition plan as needed.
  • Use relational and crisis response skills to manage crises and help de-escalate students as needed; actively work to build relationships with each student in the program.
  • Monitor progress of BRYT students who have transitioned out of the program.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming BRYT Academic Support Manager, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Associates degree required; bachelor degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching students struggling with complex learning and social-emotional challenges.
  • Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the work involved.
  • Special education experience preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates preferred.
