SUMMARY:
Building Cleaning Worker I
To perform independent cleaning, custodial or janitorial duties associated with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of multiple buildings/facilities for the State of New Hampshire Veterans Home; may include assignment to multiple units, areas, locations.
Building Cleaning Worker II
To serve as a team or crew lead, and/or shift point person and to independently provide a full range of cleaning, custodial or janitorial duties associated with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of one or multiple state facilities, buildings, grounds, or institutions; may include assignment to multiple units, areas, locations, or districts .
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Building Cleaning Worker I
Performs light to heavy physical all-inclusive housekeeping, floor care, and custodial activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and whole body movement, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, or handling equipment and materials to perform cleaning duties, such as dusting, vacuuming, stripping/buffing/waxing/polishing floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls, and glass, and disinfecting.
Removes snow, debris, or garbage from grounds/walkways; salts and sands when needed. Moves furniture, equipment, and resident belongings, as necessary, to facilitate resident moves, new admissions, and discharges and/or floor care, to include packing, inventories, and storing of such belongings securely in designated areas adhering to written procedures.
Uses mechanical equipment to perform housekeeping and/or floor care duties, which may include complex machinery such as disinfectant robot, floor care equipment, or wheelchair washer machine. Performs condition checks of cleaning tools/equipment and replaces or requests repairs as needed; observes operation of building or facility's mechanical, safety, or environmental systems and notifies supervisor or team lead of any issues or concerns. Follows written procedures on the operation and troubleshooting of equipment and machinery and/or minor repairs to equipment.
Applies best practices for Infection Control instructed by their supervisor and standards of cleanliness to meet VA Environmental Service Standards when cleaning resident rooms, furniture, and equipment as well as common areas in the facility.
Applies appropriate solvents, chemicals, and disinfectants; removes contaminated and non-contaminated waste from buildings/facilities; disposes of waste in a prescribed manner; adheres to Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) health and safety requirements relevant to the work area or facility.
Stocks supplies and advises the team lead or supervisor when inventory is low or if supplies are needed.
Collaborates with and assists other disciplines to provide a clean, safe environment for residents.
Building Cleaning Worker II
Leads and mentors individuals or crews and ensures that cleaning, shift details, and projects are completed on schedule in the area(s) of responsibility; inspects and reviews the work of team members to ensure quality and that health and safety standards are being followed. Recommends personnel actions or changes to standard operational procedures to supervisor.

Interacts with building or facility employees, residents, patients, or contractors. Investigates complaints about cleanliness, service, or equipment issues and takes corrective actions on-site. Responds to immediate safety and/or maintenance concerns; refers escalated issues for resolution to supervisor.
Completes daily activity reports, logs, or notes as necessary. Inventories stock to ensure supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts and orders or advises the supervisor of what is needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
For promotion from Building Cleaning Workers I, labor grade 8, to Building Cleaning Workers II, labor grade 10, employees:
Building Cleaning Worker II
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
Experience: One year of relevant experience. Additional work experience may be substituted for required formal education.
License/Certification: None
